Also; mindfulness training can help. But :yeshrug
sucks to suffer from a fake disease
Man, I agree with you. What's even worse is suffering from stress. Pre-20th century people just called stress "life". The fact that we can develop systems to treat abstract concepts is pretty depressing, but I guess it universally applies to our times considering the US has wars on both drugs and terrorism.
I have ADD. Not ADHD. There's apparently a difference? I'm not hyperactive at all.Thread title says ADHD, you numpty. >:(

As I understand it, in broad terms:
ADD means you can't concentrate for shit and are easily distracted.ADHD same as the above, except you also have to keep busy with something and switch what you're doing constantly.spoiler (click to show/hide)Probably just internet hypochondria, but the symptoms for adult ADD fit me well. :goty[close]
Well, the ideal for me was a low low dose of a long acting one since most of my symptoms have cleared up in the last 2 years (Vyvanse). There are non stimulant alternatives but they vary for each person in terms of impact. Strattera was aight, I tried it out for a bit but it made me a bit sleepy. Your psychiatrist can give you a 2 week trial run of that since it has to build up in your system.
That's because people call it adhd these days. I was just making an observation there.Fair enough.
In my case, it's not hypochondria at all. I was diagnosed when I was 14. I just refused to take meds for it once I became 18.
Adderall back in the day was waaaay too much :-\
I too long for the days when it was just "life" and instead of treatment options people had alcoholism
I tried this for my twenties and it worked great short-term but was surprisingly poor as a long-term solution
The attention part in ADHD is the least serious part of it, it's almost just like the hyperactivity. Being busy minded or inattentive can be dealt with because everyone experiences it from time to time. It is the deficiency in executive functions and working memory that are really hard to deal with.
Also the life management and behavioural difficulties that fuck you up even when you try your hardest.
I suggest that you do a decluttering session, get rid of everything that you do not need at your place, everything!!! Make your place look like you just moved in and had a maid clean it and tidy it all up for you. Books, bills, old clothes, silverware, old postcards, old hygiene products, torn socks, bottles, everything.. throw it away. Make it look like a hotel room. Basically if the police come to your place with a search warrant it shouldn't take them more than 60 seconds to go through everything you have. And always have easy to prepare meals available for you at home.
Set a lot of timers, like an interval timer that beeps once an hour so you do not hyperfocus on message boards.
One more thing you can do, which I really do not recommend unless it's an emergency like before an important exams you might fail is to intentionally flair up your symptoms. Drink a lot of energy drinks and smoke a lot, this gets me into a state where procrastination simply does not exist any longer. You will be hyperfocusing and doing 10 hours of study a day, the fatigue will hit you once you are out of it though so be careful. Basically I did exactly the opposite of what my psychiatrist told me not to do and that is because i still didn't get to start medication although i have gotten the diagnoses.
