Ichigo beats that dude with the braided hair. The strongest one in the soul society. Its the first time (I think?) Ichigo's alter ego eppears fully as it did in reality.
. I've watched the series (sporadically) up to that point. I liked season 1 though, its season 2 and the Soul Society arch that turned me off (the whole season seemed to span one or two days and consisted of them running around). Really didn't like it.
The point of them running is around is they had no idea

where the fuck rukia was, they soon discover she is being held in that white tower so they head there but of course have to deal with byakuya.
Now after that big fight there was an unexpected twist.

Aizen was not dead ( his sword mass-hyponotizes people) he faked his own death while making it seem as gin was the killer to hitsugaya and made it seem to Hinamori that the killer was hitsugaya. He was also was using ichigo and the others movement as a cover so he could kill the council and control soul society from the inside. He then explains about/takes the hougoku which is hidden in rukias body and has the power to make shinigami power go beyond the norm and acquire hollow powers. he then leaves soul society with gin and tousen to start an army in hueco mundo.
But yes the pacing could have used some work.
I'm not saying the first 18 are bad, because they aren't. Its just the show changes focus around there, from a modern city to soul society which is more traditional japanese looking.
Nice try, but I'm still not interested in the promise of improvement after blowing nearly nine hours of my life on something that doesn't appeal to me.
It's a bit like listening to Free Bird. Yeah, the first half is kinda slow, but when it picks up with the guitar duel in the second half, it gets real good.
