Title: Planet Explorers: Monster Hunter + Minecraft

$150k on Kickstarter, currently in Steam Early Access but it's in a decent enough shape to be incredibly fun and time-consuming:

It's sort of like Monster Hunter + Minecraft, a survivor/builder with npcs, quests, and an overarching plot if you're playing on story mode [there's also a randomized adventure mode and freeform create mode, and some multiplayer thrown in, too]. You've got this big, open world and the game gives you lots of resources and tools to do things with [make equipment, build vehicles and shelters, ect.], but it's also got a singleplayer mode where you play the survivor of a colony ship that crash landed on an Earth-like planet and it's up to you to round up the other survivors and help them to not die from being attacked by huge alien creatures and some hostile native sentients.

The vehicle creations system is really versatile, too, only forcing you to use a few preformed pieces that actually make the thing work [cockpit, wheels, engine, fuel cell, ect.] and letting you fill in the actual form of the vehicle using the raw materials you've gathered from the environment. I'm not as creative as I'd like to be, so my vehicles end up looking really clunky and dumb, but they do still work. And crafting is done straight from recipes you get along the way, so there's no trying to remember what items you need to use to make anything.

Would recommend it to someone who wants the creativity of Minecraft but with more structure and purpose [plus, the graphics and art are much nicer].

Thanks for the in depth write up. When I asked about it the other day on steam I was hoping you'd do this!

Minecraft with structure sounds great. Lack of structure is one of my problems with Minecraft. And this has Monster Hunter-isms so I'll feel at home.

I'm really interested, but Early Access has burned my ass a few too many times. I don't know. Might wait a bit more.
