comes with a small nub instead of a 2nd analogue stick,
it's literaly called "new 3ds" because nintendo is very bad at this naming thing
when does nintendo go under again? :zzz :zzz :zzz

- better 3D
- second stick
- NFC built-in
- coloured buttons
- more buttons
- better battery (up to 7h)
- now compatible with microSDCard
- you can back up data on your PC via wireless.
-browser improved, now works with HTML5
- CPU improved, makes browsing Miiverse / eShop much faster.
- can switch designs now (covers)
I saw the presentation. The 3D doesn't get blurry from any direction.
-
Fuck you Nintendo. This is why I hate buying Nintendo portables. Also great news that Xenoblade 3ds only works on these systems.
-
Sounds pretty awesome. Will buy.
But I need to dump my 3DS XL first...which I barely touched.

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/08/new_nintendo_3ds_models_announced
It has been revealed during today's Japanese Nintendo Direct that Nintendo is refreshing its 3DS line of consoles with new features.
The revised hardware will include NFC as standard - for Amiibo support — a second, smaller Circle Pad, additional shoulder buttons and improved 3D viewing angles.
Nintendo has moved the placement of some key features — such as the cartridge slot and existing buttons — and has confirmed that the system will also use MicroSD instead of SD.
It is also suggested that hardware has been improved, with elements such as downloading and Miiverse running faster than on a standard 3DS console. The two new models will have their own set of accessories — such as charging docks — and the smaller model will have interchangeable covers, like the GBA Micro.
Interestingly, Nintendo will be refreshing both the original 3DS and the 3DS XL (know as the 3DS LL in Japan). The systems will launch in Japan on October 11th.
-
I guess it's time to look up the trade in value for an XL.
-
Awesome split userbases

:dead
I just bought a 3DS LL a few weeks back. :lol :'(
Awesome split userbases
Circe Pad Pro/XL. :smug
I seriously can't believe they're doing this now. Why didn't the XL release with these improvements in the first place?
-
anyone waiting for that new wii u? lol
-
This is what people wanted. A SD and worse running port of Xenoblade. That is only playable on a new 3ds.
-
UPDATE: But they won't launch in Europe until 2015, Nintendo UK says.

Did they say if the new regular-sized 3DS will have the same battery life improvements? I will totally ditch my Japanese LL and import one of those ASAP then.
-

more ports, more people experiencing the game
why mad bro?
-
Because I have to buy another 3ds to play this game.
-
So I need to buy this if I want to play Xenoblade? Does it work with old 3DS games?
-
Fuck yes, bought
-
:dead
I just bought a 3DS LL a few weeks back. :lol :'(
I know that feel, at least a few months back.
Oh well, I can play Xenoblade on Dolphin and possibly stream that to Shield. While, I can pirate non-"exclusive" shit with my 3DS in a bit after the Homebrew channel is "fixed." :smug
-
Wow, New 3DS only retail games? That's a pretty bold move by Nintendo and not something I see working out well for them outside of Japan.
-
That little nub is hilarious :lol although I imagine it works better than it looks. Looking forward to some hands on impressions. Did they say if it would be playable at TGS? Pretty happy I never succumbed to my XL desires :)

Ultimate 3DS Remix for 3DS
Ultimate NES Remix: This new Nintendo 3DS game will be available in stores and in the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS on Dec. 5 at a suggested retail price of $29.99. The game features rapid-fire challenges and mashups from a selection of 16 of Nintendo’s finest 8-bit games. Regional online leaderboards will let players see how they stack up against others in their area, and Championship Mode offers a series of challenges from three different games.

We about to become figurine collectors fellow ninthings :-\
I think the New 3DS is pretty gorgeous with that retro button color scheme, but the 3DS LL looks dumb as fuck. Since I already own an OG 3DS since launch, I feel comfortable upgrading since about 3-4 years has passed (and I still get to play Smash Bros 3DS while I wait for the new model!)
Nintendo aren't pulling back any punches.

Ugh Jesus, I guess I'm gonna get this for Xenoblade and hate it/myself

Did they seriously not increase the resolution?

How are you going to play Smash Bros for 3DS without a 2DS?
-
Okay.
Watched the Direct.
New 3ds looks shit hot. The LL looks all kinds of bad to me like the xl. Will import the new 3ds.
-
ill pass and wait for the real upgrade.
-
It's region locked fyi
-
Also, Xenoblade! Now I can play it. :) Nintendo doing a great job.
-
It's region locked fyi
I already know this. I'm importing to play DQ7 and DS imports.
-

How are you going to play Smash Bros for 3DS without a 2DS?
fuck smash bros
I just finally came to the realization that the only Nintendo franchise I have any interest in whatsoever is Mario Kart, and I ain't keeping this thing just to turn that on a couple times a year.
-
Sell it to me, Eel. What are you looking to get.
-
$70, shipping included
-
i already traded the games i had to get diablo, so it's system only
-
If it's got everything complete, I'll give you 70 for it. PM me.
-
yeah, all packaging, SD card, charger, manuals and AR cards - everything it came with
i think i might have 20 hours total playtime on it, so it's in pretty mint shape
-
on another nintendo-related note, trading my 2ds in today (not to buy any of this announced bullshit)
You should keep it. You know you'll just end up buying another one. :P
-
i don't think they're gonna make another mario kart for it - and even if they do, they'll put some bullshit in it where you have to use one of these new 3ds models to play it
-
Yeah you can buy the New 3ds which would be an upgrade anyway.
-
i don't think they're gonna make another mario kart for it - and even if they do, they'll put some bullshit in it where you have to use one of these new 3ds models to play it
That's a good point. :lol
Would be a pretty ballsy move for Nintendo to that with a Mario game, though.
-
been super busy all day, only seeing this stuff now.
Need new 3DS as son has stolen mine, price same, spec up, Xeno ... There we go!
Launches same day as MH4G - zombie Nintendo walks again.
-
This will be 3DS #4 for me. :dizzy And will do it again when the American models come out :dizzy :dizzy
Just two Vitas so far!
:obama
Nintendo is gonna rake in dem yenz-- they'll sell more old systems when Smash comes out in two weeks, then sell more New 3DS models with Monster Hunter in October.
-
Demi passed, so if anyone else wants it PM me. I'll hold onto it through the weekend.
-
Is there more information on Xenoblade 3ds?
-
I would have grabbed it from you if these new models weren't coming out. No point in going with the old hardware now. Wish I could ditch my American XL, but without an account system, I have to wait until next year. :-\
-
Any speculation on a price point? Will it be priced the same or will they have it at a higher PP?
-
you know i was thinking... couldn't nintendo have released some sort of expansion thinga-majig for the 3DS, instead of this whole "a lot of our new games will only run on our new 3ds! time to buy it again!"
i mean it worked back on the N64 days...
-

They did.
-
yeah the question was "why not make another thing like that but with whatever magic gnome makes xenoblade runs on the new 3DS?"
-
???
-
???
the xenoblade port will only run on this new 3DS because apparently this 3DS has more CPU or something like that, you know that right? it's not even going to be the only game that will be exclusive to the new 3DS
Satoru Iwata also mentioned that several other titles are in development exclusively for the New Nintendo 3DS. These will not be playable on the old 3DS models.

The N64 was designed from the start to be expanded on, and even giving the bloody RAM pack away, it still went badly.
Like, what could they do here? This isn't a simple RAM upgrade, they've switched the CPU. That's not exactly something you can let an eight year old swap in and out.
I don't know, that's why i'm asking you rude moron :beli

Just pop a new CPU in the SD slot, boom, you're good to go!
BTW, buying a New 3DS, all the Amiibos, and Xenoblade 3D. :hyper
-
And apparently they're still going to sell the originals (at least the 2ds, there's a Mario Kart bundle coming)
This is all going to be hilariously confusing for parents
-
on another nintendo-related note, trading my 2ds in today (not to buy any of this announced bullshit)
I'm probably gonna do the same Tuesday if that Homebrew channel game exploit doesn't "leak" sometime in the next few days. Fuck waiting around just to play 5 titles on the system. :lol
(Okay, I'm not. I pre-ordered Persona Q. :fbm)

casuals ain't the target audience anymore, didn't you read the news (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=883232)?
-
evidently no one's the target audience anymore, when it comes to dedicated handheld systems
i mean, vita's only $30 more than a 3DS and comes with a game/memory card, is umpteen times more powerful, sony throws free games out the door at people every month, and they still can't give that motherfucker away
-
i mean, vita's only $30 more than a 3DS and comes with a game/memory card, is umpteen times more powerful, sony throws free games out the door at people every month, and they still can't give that motherfucker away
To be fair, you can play those free games on a Nvidia shield if you bought them off Steam. :hitler
Sony should've put in a bit more effort than they did after the initial lukewarm response. Uncharted and (as much as I hate to say it) Killzone were "system sellers" if they demoed KZ like they did Uncharted. Then it was just a matter of putting out some games from Bend instead of letting Bend do PS4 work.
The 3DS doesn't really have a strong market and the rest of the market (like me) is waiting for someone to finally crack the system wide open to pirate Japanese games that won't come over, similar to the DS.
-
It comes down to the games.
Vita doesn't have a single game I'm interested in playing.
-
i think it comes down to the phones
-
i think it comes down to the phones
Nailed it. But I'm not sure I'm ready for Vita ports of Disgaea (Though 1-2 is available if you jailbreak on iPhone? I know they are on Android with PPSSPP) and Uncharted if Bioshock iPhone is anything to go by. :fbm

ok, i understand the idea is dumb, it's just that i'm kinda shocked by how badly this screw up recent 3DS owner and how they aren't going to do anything about it, at least give some free virtual console game to bork! :stahp

vita is doing better in japan after releasing...you guessed it, games.
sony US is doing jackshit and sony Europe ran out of $1 steam indie games to bundle.
Nintendo is blessed with great first party studios and they are damn stubborn.

3DS support has dried up this year and I seriously doubt this new model will make a big difference. I will buy a normal, cheaper XL instead.

As someone who enjoys the 3DS because of its 3D-effect, the new New 3DS is a must-buy for me since it has improved 3D you can angle.
-
'Another 3DS? Meh, that's nice I guess. Xenoblade on the new 3DS?!!! HOW MUCH DOES IT COST AND WHEN CAN I BUY IT?!'
Honestly I always thought Xenoblade should've had a 3DS port.
-
Should have been put on WiiU instead... shrug. As much as my dick is throbbing for Xenoblade, I already played it, so I'm not really jumping at the bit.
Maybe they'll do a port like Bayo.
-
yeah they've had to stop making 3ds games to support the weeo so why bother getting this new one
guessing that this new 3ds will have more ports than original games. unless there's majora's mask, might as well wait until the proper next one.
I like that they showcase the new speed with a download. still can't download games in the background, but now the wait is a little less long.

I... kinda feel like I wasted money eight months ago importing a Japanese 3DS. Could've put that money towards something more important back then.
Though I dunno if it would be more beneficial to get a NA New 3DS (that's seriously the name????) or a Japanese New 3DS. Probably the latter, but I have a Japanese XL already because I couldn't wait to play Bravely Default. -_-
I'll probably wait until next year when I'm making more money. Get homebrew and region-bypass out already, people!

-
I'll stick to my vanilla 3DS. I don't even have a single game for it outside of Rune Factory 4 anyway.
-
I've owned a GBC, Wii Motion Plus and DSi. I'm not getting into another one of Nintendo's attempts to make their hardware look less aged.
-
feels like all these people you wouldn't expect come out of the woodwork whenever new hardware is announced for anything, is this a 'gamer' thing? lotta people i know acting like it's a foregone conclusion they'll buy it, i don't get it, people really want xenoblade portable?
i never bought a dsi and that's what this looks like to me. not gonna pass my personal litmus of five great exclusives before it dies, gonna be easy to wait until 4ds or whatever. i don't use 3d so that shit is useless to me, and i don't play games on portables that need a second stick. resolution is really the only hardware improvement i was looking to see, and seems like nintendo is gonna drag their feet there as long as they can.
maybe this will keep 3ds viable a bit longer here in the US so that we don't end up missing out on all the late-ass JPN localizations, so that's a bright spot.
edit: reading this back i think i sound angry for some reason haha, i'm actually totally fine. i just bought an effing wii u last night, i don't need new hardware!
-
I've owned a GBC, Wii Motion Plus and DSi. I'm not getting into another one of Nintendo's attempts to make their hardware look less aged.
:yeshrug
GBC shouldn't even be used as a comparison to me because it came out like 9 years after the original GB was released and felt like a new console (plus it took a while for exclusives to get moving on that system). GB Pocket should be the better comparison since it came out two years before the GBC. DSi and WM+, I'll give you. DSi is some good hardware, though. That D-Pad feels so good, and the matte finish is easy on the hands. It's what the DS Lite should've been.
Talked it over with Sunblade and I'm not getting a new 3ds until a few years from now (and if I do, it might be a Japanese one). I can deal without handheld Xenoblade because I already played that game and while it's a good game, I don't think it's as super-duper-awesome as a lot of people say it is cuz it has some problems.
Better not release Majora's Mask for New 3DS-only, though.
-
The 3DS is the first Nintendo handheld I've owned and while I guess it should have been obvious there was bound to be another version, I just didn't think it would be like this. I mean I expected another revision, but not one that would keep me from buying games I'd want to. I guess this is a new system, I really can't tell. Is it a completely new system or a simply a revised 3ds? Should I buy it because there will be more games coming for it? Or should I buy it because I just want xenoblade, but there won't be any real other "New 3ds only games"? Am I going to miss games by not having it? Features? Are some games going to run worse because they actually developed it for the new 3ds and then just decided it should also come to the regular 3ds? Lots of questions.
I don't really like buying more then one system. I never bought a PS2 Slim, I use the fat one till this day. I've only had one PSP and will hopefully only have one Vita. I got all that I could out of my 360 and PS3 before having to upgrade. So basically this rubs me the wrong way and I don't like it.

Gameboy had a weird lifecycle, so the timelines don't really match up but hardware-wise, comparing GBC and New 3DS makes sense. Pocket was just a slim revision with a better screen. Color had more RAM and a better processor than GB/GBP. The same went for DSi vs. DS and now New 3DS vs. 3DS.
I have no regrets with GBC, but it's DSi that left me cold. I liked the matte design and considerably better D-pad, but in hindsight, I would've been fine staying put with the lite. There wasn't a lot of DSi-exclusive software and the eShop stuff is playable on 3DS. Publishers and developers didn't want to ignore the massive DS userbase, so DSi suffered for it. I expect New 3DS to have a similarly limited library, especially since optimism regarding dedicated handhelds is kind of gone.
-
This is the dumbest shit ever. I thought we were going to get the 3DS successor, aka the only non-mobile place that videogames from Japan will still be made for in 3 years, next year. Something between Vita-Wii U power with TV-out.
But instead there's this, and all it will do is confuse and divide the market that's already dying moreso and delay the real 3DS successor until 2016 at earliest. Booooooo

Assuming we are talking about the GAF post I think we are, the correct answer is that the New 3DS desperately needs a Tropical Freeze port. Displaying mad skills in that at Target is how you move consoles.
-
It is the ultimate dream job to work at the hipster mecca that is target and share Nintendo with the world.
Probably better than walmart where you have to sling Call of Duty.
-
I appreciate them adding more buttons and solidifying/de-emphasizing the second analog stick(c-stick?), but given that it's a bit into the 3DS life-cycle it might make for some weird support issues. Or is this a new machine separate from the 3DS ala wii -> wii u? idk. whatever, I haven't bought a 3DS yet cus I figured they'd run some iterations like nintendo is want to do and I was, and still am, waiting for the region lock issue to be solved before I bother.
