Gamers have been waiting to play Final Fantasy XV for a long time, but a chance to sample the gameplay is coming soon. A downloadable demo for the next numbered Final Fantasy will be available in 2015, and lets players see some opening sections of the game in action.
Square Enix is calling the demo Episode Duscae, and though it focuses on the early parts of the game, some elements of the progression have been altered in order to make it more suitable for a demo experience.
Some players will be able to get Episode Duscae for free thanks to a voucher included with Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, which releases on March 17 in North America. A representative from Square Enix could not confirm that the demo will be available the exact same day as Type-0 HD, but it will be coming to both PS4 and Xbox One when it does release.

If it can provide at least 15 hours of gameplay like the Destiny demo them I am willing to pay for it.
-
uh I'm sure you'll be able to run around the map and grind out your stats for fifteen hours if you really want to

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm with Lager. If they released X/X-2 on steam, I'd buy that. Not touching XIII with anyone's dick, much less mine.

Nomura is not working on FFXV anymore :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
only Kingdom Hearts 3
In reviewing our development structure, we have decided to assign Hajime Tabata as the new director for Final Fantasy XV. Currently, Tabata and the entire development team are working, whole-heartedly, towards completing the production of Final Fantasy XV and ensuring the delivery of the highest quality Final Fantasy title to date. We invite every one of our fans to view the fruits of our labor through Final Fantasy XV's demo, and promise to present a game that further surpasses expectations when the finished product is released.
As the director of Final Fantasy XV, Tetsuya Nomura has mainly worked on the original concept for the story and universe in addition to creating the characters. Hereafter, he will be focusing his efforts on the production of titles that can only be made possible by Nomura, himself, and delivering products that exceed the quality of past titles, starting with another one of his representative projects, Kingdom Hearts III. Square Enix will continue to work on these titles with the best staff formation in an effort to deliver them to everyone as soon as possible and appreciates your continued support.

Man that reminds me of FFVIII. CARS. I wonder if you can run out of gas like in VIII.
-
I really like that it looks like they're taking more from Final Fantasy 12 than Final Fantasy 13 in terms of gameplay and the way the environments are laid out. This might be the game that gets me onboard the PS4 train.
Switching directors this late in development doesn't sounds too good, though.

I've already played Type 0 and it is what it is. An action rpg from SE. None of them(KH, BBS, DoM,) have ever been great like say Ys. Floaty. Overly animated. Type 0 was no different. I still had some fun with it. Really all I would like is for the game to be less grindy and I don't think thats going to be hard to fix.
The bland levels and story. No I doubt those are being fixed. The geometry is still simple like a PSP game. It just has a PS4 HD paint over it. The paint does look good though and they sure through in a lot of motion blur.

well this is kinda depressing. either i'm getting old or i actually dont care about FF anymore. all i'm feeling from this onslaught of news the last couple days is :shrug
that's a little sad! final fantasy was my favorite series for like 16 years. sorry for shitting up the thread, I JUST NEED A MOMENT.
happy for you all though! things finally seem like they're moving.
-
That looks quite good. Still wish they would base a few games in a more medieval setting, but the game play looks like a lot of fun.
-
i'm sorry larry!!!

Really? I started the fan translation a few months ago and beat the first boss but never continued due to this announcement and other games
-
Yeah, Type-0 isn't that hot. The combat doesn't feel like it has a lot of depth to it if you can kill sight mostly everything, especially with ranged fighters. And the RTS battles are complete poop. I think the people who'd played the fantranslation had mixed reactions, too. I ended up liking FF13 more than it, and I was surprised with that. The very first Type-0 demo was a complete mess compared to the full game, though. They came a long way from that (because they had to delay the game a month or so after releasing the first demo to fix a lot of things), and it's neat to see the finished product. The console version shouldn't be completely bs to play since the controller has more buttons than the PSP/Vita does. It's one of the best-looking games on the PSP, so it'll be neat to see the remastered version.
Don't have much to say about FF15, either. Same boat as larry over here.
-
I liked the older XV trailers better but its nice to see more of it
-
I enjoy that the game seems to have a return to goofy FF humor. Bunch of pretty boys doing a cook out and shit. I dunno

FFXV being just a road trip with bros is basically the freshest idea the series has had since the PSX days.

Good trailer.

This might be the first FF game, based off of the trailer alone, that I'm actually interested in. :lol

I would be completely okay if we never got one. But I imagine it'll pop up late in the game, like FFX.

There's going to be more than four people so of course they are going to get several modes of travel.

The car should gain the ability to fly obviously. With huge chrome-fin-looking wings that extend.

the music is good, it's weird to see a car and graphicaly it looks amazing, but honestly it's been so fucking long i don't care anymore, and what i want is the urban setting FF7-like with all the bell and whistles of next gen, and they show me plains and cave like this is friggin xenoblade :zzz
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiIx9VJWSl8
now that trailer above was good, it had cities, it had plains, it showed a shitload of stuff
also it's weird saying this considering a good chunk of the trailer is people getting slashed, but it doesn't feel like you are seeing the actual game being played so it still feels like i'm looking at vaporware, at this point they should just show an actual demo and be done with these trailers

We've already seen cities. What's wrong with showing caves? It's pretty clear that this trailer is mostly about the world exploration and the gameplay premise and the feeling of adventure and camaraderie between you and your party. Your complaint feels hollow and it feels like you're just looking for excuses as to why you didn't like it. Your "most of the trailer is slashing" complaint is silly given that the main highlight of that trailer you posted is the player fighting a Behemoth in a city. Nothing in the trailer you posted tells us how the game plays, which at this point in time is clearly the most important thing towards this games marketing because it's been in the oven so long no one knows HOW it plays and it's great to see a glimpse. This new trailer exposed hints of world design, game structure, story, and character chemistry. It also shows that the game looks to be steeped in charm, something that's been missing from single player FF's for a long time.
But I guess it's a bad trailer because...it doesn't have cityscapes? Your priorities are off.
-
Btw. FFVII only has two cities. One of which you have no access to for pretty much the whole game. "We're far from home." Sound familiar? It doesn't look like you'll be able to go back to the original city for a long time either, hmmmm, what game is similar to that?!?!? So the trailer you're lambasting for not being similar to VII setting is very faithful to VII, a game that was mostly about exploring the country side, beaches, caves, and canyons while riding in a buggey, and finding hidden Japan islands than city exploration to shift a comparison against Midgar and its mako sucking assholery.
Magus.
Your logic.
I can't. :heh

The setting looks so beautiful, Borys! FF8 :punch

himumu wall of text
no thanks, i'd rather choke on my tongue than talking about final fantasy with himumu, see the tag :zzz
-
What's the tag supposed to mean? I love Final Fantasy VII. You think you're special or some shit? You think you're the only person here who likes VII?
-
Well, FF14 was command based. And remember that this is Final Fantasy, so chances are high 16 will be command based.
As for the combat, I'm fine with its speed. I like that it looks weight-y. And a bit more stylish than KH.There's no need at all to speed up battles imo.

"Looks like Xenoblade." Yes, a game that was in development before Xenoblade existed looks like Xenoblade.
-
The looks like Xenoblade thing is especially cute since ff has been experimenting with large worlds and huge monsters for over ten years
-
"Looks like Xenoblade." Yes, a game that was in development before Xenoblade existed looks like Xenoblade.
Xenoblade began development in 2005.
-
No one played xenoblade so whatevs
-
people said Xenoblade looks like FFXII, and that FFXII looks like an offline FFXI or KOTOR.
-
Looks great, but holy shit at disaster-ville with Nomura gone. 2 out of the 3 last single player FFs (12 & 15) have had disastrous dev cycles where the directors had to be kicked out and 14 was a mess of an game that had to be completely remade. 13, despite sucking, was the only FF development that's gone smoothly in the last 10 years. The way SE has squandered one of the biggest franchises in Japan is WOW.
That being said, mixed on loss of Nomura. While I am a big fan of Nomura directed/produced games outside Dirge, FFXII still ended up being pretty good & Matsuno even losing Matsuno-ish. I mean FFXII felt rushed and incomplete but it was still a leagues better rpg experience than XIIII. So XV could still be a pretty great Nomura-esque FF, but will probably end up with noticeable flaws due to the development hell its been through.
-
two out of three? What?
FF12, 13, 14, and 15 are all plagued with bad production and development issues. Remember when 13 took 3 years to come out after originally being announced? any interview was full of non-answers, no gameplay footage shown until the game was released, and it turned out that it had the interaction and exploration of a platformer? The games staff had no communication between different teams and the games design didn't come together until the demo came out.
To say ff13 development went smoothly given the excess amount of wasted production and assets is insane, bebpo. Smoothly? FF13? Is this real life?
-
XIII was done in a reasonable time for a Japanese HD game and had a single clear polished terrible vision by a terrible writer/director. Compared to XII/XIV/XV it went smooth.

Because no game ever decided to ape on popular games that came out during their development cycle. Especially not when said game has an extraordinarily long dev cycle.

FFXV has always had large fields and the player fighting giant monsters. Even before xenoblade even came out.

FF13 had absolutely no coherent vision or playable gameplay build until the 2009 Advent Children complete demo, 5 years after development of the game started. It also had enough cut content that they could make a whole nother game out of it. To call that "smooth" is kinda laughable.

That maybe true. But Xenoblade came out before so it's not surprising for people to be like "hey, that looks just like that other game."
-
You're right. It's not surprising. It also doesn't look anything like Xeboblade, a command based rpg last I checked.
-
I'm still not convinced this trailer is indicative of the final game. Hell even the FF13 demo had some big differences from the final game.
-

It did? It was pretty much press up the whole ride. Same stuff the rest of the game had.

No paradigms, no items, no auto battle, had to hit a button to confirm actions instead of just going when ATB hit max.
And being like Xenoblade wouldn't be bad. That's the best console RPG I've played in a while.

You're comparing UI to game structure and entire battles systems, though. Do you expect them to completely change what they have here from the final product? There are differences between the ff13 demo and ff13 full game because one is a demo, but the structure and game design of the two are very much identical. I doubt they'll go back and change much, epsecially given how late in the development cycle they are. FF8's demo has some differences from the real game but it's still tic for tac pretty much the game in all of its essence. The same is true for FF12. I dunno, I don't think there's much reason to be skeptical if changes are what you're worrying about.
If there's anything to be skeptical about, it's whether or not anything we are watching in this trailer is even good. But it looks really fun, so I'll give it a shot.
-
The main thing for me is "how does the action I'm seeing in battles actually happen?". Is it real time or menu based? How easy/common is it to do those multi character combos? It looks good and I buy every mainline FF anyway so I'll find out eventually. This game being on PC extra sealed it for me because it avoids the question "How much shittier is the PS3 version going to look?".
-
This may answer your question:
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LBilT83Uq4A
Though as said, it's far from a final product, it looks stunningly similar to Kingdom Hearts: large rooms, lock on, party combos and interaction, a command menu with an action rpg battle system. We don't know what has changed since this trailer but it gives a good idea of its vision.
-
I forgot about Kingdom Hearts :o
Is that gonna be on PC too? :o :o
-
No idea but let's cross our fingers
-
I'm glad Kagari looked fucking stupid as shit when these reveals happened. She's always come off as an asshole about Square news.
Is she? People are still eating up everything she says. People still think she knows stuff even though pretty much every time she has been proven wrong.
She claimed Type 0 HD would be nothing special. The game looks more then an up-rezed port.
She told people not to expect 15 there. It was there. Let alone it getting a demo.
She knew nothing of the PC version of 13.
She knew nothing of Nomura stepping down.
-
Sorry dude, type O HD does look nothing special. Taking a mediocre game with empty ps1 boxy environments, swapping out the character models for the cutscene models and throwing a bloom AA filter and motion blur over it all probably took them a month. Looks ok, but nothing special and still shows ps1-era roots.
-
Big surprise that Bebpo is on team kagari. We need to get Gamergate on the case so they can expose the corruption of GAF.
-

Actually I just enjoy talking shit about Type 0 because it's a pretty awful "game" even if the story is alright and the music is godly.

I know a SJW when I see one.

Looks interesting, though I'd still prefer if they went for a turn-based or an ATB combat system.

Also that plain looks EXTREMELY boring.

It's Tales. What do you expect?
-
It's Tales. What do you expect?
I mean, I love Tales of Vesperia, but it's the only Tales game I ever enjoyed playing
-
If Zestria sucks, then Tales will have officially died at Xillia when they started chasing that western "open fields" design instead of the linear jpg design they'd been good at for 15 years.
Zestria looks awful, but I'm gonna give it a fair shake and last chance for the series with me.
-
I have a feeling in the back of my head that Zestiria is not going to live up even to my lowest expectations for the game. I'm not sure if I'm at the point where I'll say I'm dropping the series for good yet. I wish it were better. I wish games were like Destiny R and Vesperia again, but that's not what people seem to want lately.
Really not a surprise to hear you might be dropping the series for good, Bebpo. I haven't seen you discuss Tales in a long time, and I guess Xillia was pretty offputting to you like it was for me. I thought Xillia was a complete misstep in the series. But since a lot of people seem to really like the game, I'm not sure if Namco themselves see it as a misstep. So I guess that's the direction in which the series is heading.
I dunno. Trying to say that SE should make a video game that kinda looks like Zestiria or Xillia or should play "like" them would be kinda weird. Especially when we used to joke that Xillia was the FF13 of Tales, and that wasn't a compliment.
As for XVersus... eh. We'll see how impressions are when they release a playable demo. Didn't really see much to like in that trailer. I bought Type-0 already and didn't like it much, but I wonder how the English localization is going to be like so I'm on the fence about getting the HD version. HD version means the controls won't suck this time! And maybe they'll remove the shitty RTS parts.

This actually looks pretty good outside the fields being too open and empty. Everything, especially the battle transition is really fast and smooth. Looks fun.

So much mental gymnastics going on here. Flippin and floppin. Nobody today can stick to their convictions
I will:
- Play FFXV
I will:
- Play Type0
I will:
- Play Zestiria

I will play the shit out of these final fantasies because other than the painfully mediocre 13 the series has always been pretty great

Hope they put a demo out. That's what sold me on Graces f four years ago. Don't like that the fields are big and empty and likely like Xillia and full of nothing.
The last gameplay vid they put out made everything look super-cramped, so that's why I didn't know about getting it. Hope Udo pulls through and makes something good.
The RTS parts could be quickly seen in the HD trailer.

People complained about those parts at launch and I didn't believe them when they said how bad they were. I played the game this year and oh my god they were worse than expected.

Duscae is a toponym, there's an area in the game world.
Demo length is about 1 hour, but players might play for about 3 hours.
There's gonna be a bit of overworld and a dungeon.
Car's in! Chocobos might also be.
No boss battles, because they're a big deal in the game.
Trying to make distribution date to be the same as Type 0 HD release date.
Ignis was driving in the trailer but you can do it yourself, or you can leave it on auto, so Noctis' friends will drive it for you.
See that Adamantoise? You can fight him.
But it will take a long while.

they're fighting imps from FFII I think in the live vid.
this looks like garula from ff5

The Imp is actually the goblin design from FFI. And yes those are FFV Garulas. FFXV is looking to be chock full of classic monster design reimagined in HD.

nobody said that either, i just said the trailer was boring, why wasn't the bit above in the trailer if they already had it ready to shown? but it's great you guys always have this much fun acting like distinguished mentally-challenged children as usual :zzz
-
like maybe they wanted to show off a different part of the game that people hadn't seen yet i don't know

eh... but the video i posted had both, i think they have done it since big open field are all in vogue now ("see that adamantoise? you can fight him" like i haven't already heard this shit before) especialy after everybody throw a fit over FF13, but saying so makes me look like an autistic hater and i don't want to be associated with the people in the "is final fantasy coming to steam?" thread :heh

Auto battle? :beli
Smells like a Tabata move. :beli
Tabata sucks and I haven't ilked a single game he's directed. So I'm getting worried here.
Looks like they've taken out the KH command menu and replaced it with a list of actions that you're doing. This could be a result of Tabata being lead director, a new battle system director, or it could be a result of the fact that the old footage a target and they were unable to meet that target in live gameplay.
"Combat is action based but has been simplified to allow for a more user-friendly experience." :beli automation in action rpg != "user friendly" I really hope this is an option.

Overture demo in HD

Being able to actually read the video in clear hd helps. Those are definitely goblins.

If Zestria sucks, then Tales will have officially died at Xillia when they started chasing that western "open fields" design instead of the linear jpg design they'd been good at for 15 years.
Zestria looks awful, but I'm gonna give it a fair shake and last chance for the series with me.
last chance? PS4 tales will be able to look godly.

LOL
Has nothing to do with power and everything to do with budget. The budget for the franchise entries has been going down as the games sell fewer copies worldwide. It's why Zestria still doesn't look anywhere near as good as Vesperia.

A PS4 tales will still look better then the muddy PS3 installments.
-
Why would anyone expect anything out of a PS4 Tales. Despite having one good looking game at the start of the gen, they have progressively gotten uglier and more cheap in thier presentation. It's shocking that Vesperia looks so much better then all the games that followed.
Does it really have to do with the sales worldwide though? Didn't Xillia do better then Vesperia and why would a Japanese centric series have its budget depend on worldwide sales? While Xillia 2 did'nt beat expectations hasn't the series done pretty consistently ok in Japan with Xillia doing very well?
-
Vesp was expected to do much, much better than it did and was budgeted accordingly.
Xillia did better than expected but the lesson learned was that they don't need to sink a lot of money in to sell a lot.
No matter what, you lose.
they expected a jrpg do good on xbox 360. It was doomed from the start.

we've clarified that the demo is not actually released on march 17t but will be a download code for a later date, right?

So about the same length as The Order?

It's an Order amount of demo time.
