Title: If we lived in a stateless world of anarchy...
Post by: Eschaton on September 19, 2014, 12:23:17 PM
Where would most people immigrate?  :ohhh

Europe, the US? It often feels like the places with the most resources just in terms of food and water have the least dense populations.

Was that true when more people, as a %, worked in agriculture though? China's been focused on moving an awful lot of peasants into the cities for what seems like ten centuries.

The South had a lot more...uh...large farm laborers...for a long time too before they all left for the cities.

Winter tends to fuck the prospects of anyone in the northern hemisphere. Kinda have to stay small and tight nit here. Well, at least until industrialization/mechanization.

On a related note. It has always been a little funny to me that Crusaders went from western Europe to the fucking desert to find their paradise, while the mythology that brought them there (trade routes schmade routes) in the first place promises an afterlife in a lush garden. Farmer's from the best farming grounds living the desert people's dream (winter notwithstanding). :dead

Also you're ignoring that without the state crushing us we'd all be living in Zeppelin Fortresses in the Mesosphere.

Later we're going to watch pirated DVD's and gay marry each other.

I guess the real question is, what region of the world would YOU like to live in if there were no boundaries? :leon
Somewhere in the mediterranean or with mediterranean climate. Where it's never too hot, but also never actually that cold. Momo made South Africa look really appealing.

I consider it a critical failure of the video game industry that a real tactical siege simulator hasn't sprung up, incorporating everything from castle building to defenses to unit allocation. And don't your dare recommend me Wars of the Roses.

I guess maybe Majesty is sorta like that though in a fantasy setting, the HD remake is currently in this bundle: http://www.bundlestars.com/all-bundles/immortal-bundle/

Age of Empires and Total War games have some aspects and missions along the lines.

EDIT: Huh, guess Dawn of Fantasy has some of that stuff too:
Quote
Dawn of Fantasy: Kingdom Wars is the first full 3D MMORTS with real-time siege combat. Offering an evolving online environment, in which you will be gathering resources, constructing buildings and walls, directing your citizens, completing quests in the service of mighty nobles and fiendish rogues, and managing your economy - all within an online realm that grows, works, lives, and breathes even when you log off. All this is glorious 3d world with stunning level of detail and epic scale - with vibrant towns and thousand strong armies. And of-course let’s not forget the glorious siege battles all in real-time! Developed by Reverie World Studios, Dawn of Fantasy: Kingdom Wars is the result of several years of hard work by a new Toronto based studio, with members all over the world contributing in their spare time.

This reminds me that I own Europa Universalis 3 but I don't want to play it, yet want to own EU IV badly.

Steam #dualities.
the fact that we don't have a topic for Paradox GS games on gaming side is a source of constant :goty2 for me

There were a bunch of attempts among the early PC greybeard devs to make the ultimate castle siege simulator. I found them all to be boooring.

As to the subject, I would guess it would revert back to medieval times where people congregated around major ports and rivers, because the roads would slowly fall into disrepair or be unsafe.

So, good news for Detroit, I guess.  :P

No water

Already population dense

Potential epicenter for future ethnic strife

Will get fucked by global warming

If you're going to be realistic like that pretty much anywhere in the world is going to be fucked by "stateless anarchy"

There's some nice places in our current anarchy.

Well, it depends on your perspective. A lot of the current population densities are due to the inertia set forth hundreds of years ago.

If you look at growth (in America) in the past 10 years, places like Austin, Raleigh, Vegas, Phoenix, Charlotte are all seeing explosions in population. Places you don't really associate as being port/river cities.

California (probably Santa Barbara). Coastal, near farmlands, liberal + highly educated area, has Silvergreens. Can run and hide in SLO if neonazis win the race war.

Hawaii. Home, isolated, beautiful, fertile, multicultural. Could participate in the haole purge.

New Zealand. idk much about New Zealand but it's beautiful and I would definitely call dibs on Minas Tirith. GOAT fortress city.

You would need a country that is not densly populated but has natural resources, I think Sweden or Norway would be good. Maybe Finland/Canada.

Lots of wood, fresh water, still some wildlife, no crazy diseases.

Just merciless winters and a lunar solar phenomenon that plays havoc on the humors (which will in all likelihood will already be taxed as I doubt this stateless world of anarchy will be the highest stage of communism), nbd.
