So, I bit the bullet finally and did a thing today:

My first proper shaving kit. They're all still technically Gillette products so they're not really a barber's recommended option, but as a beginner, I'm quite happy with it. Along with that, I got an Edwin Jagger DE89. Altogether it came to a shade under 200. That brush is the entry level so I'm thinking already about buying a more expensive Silvertip model. My favorite product so far is the beard wax :noah. Smells of pipe tobacco and sandalwood and makes my beard look slick.
The result so far:

Gonna try and grow it out for the foreseeable future. I want it to get long enough so that I can shape it to point down...I hate beards that seemingly have no shape. Just one big wad of hair is icky. I'm even considering a handlebar in the future if I'm feeling hipster enough.
What do you guys think of the color? I've had six people recently comment and ask if I color my beard :-\. I can't help that its both blonde and brunette. Should I try and color it to make it all one color?

Well, it was 178 with the following:
-Edwin Jagger DE89
-Pre-shave lubricant
-Shaving cream
-After shave balm
-Brush
-Brush stand
-Beard wax
-cleaning kit
-travel kit
:yeshrug
This was also in a mall, sooooo. Add another 30~ bucks for location purchasing. The dude was cool though, I think I'll be able to get a hook up from him in the future.
Regardless, I'm glad to be getting into this stuff, finally. Using ten dollar razors from Kroger on my neck :kobeyuck

You try any of the beard wax stuff?

Oh yeah. A beard.
I have one of those.
Makes my head look less like an egg. :tocry

Beard Oil :bow2

I keep forgetting that I can't straight razor (with water obv.) my neck anymore and try to straight razor my neck. The results aren't catastrophic or anything, it's just a frequent reminder that I used to be hardcore and now am not. :goty2

Is all that stuff really necessary if you're not trying to curl your beard into some barbershop quartet topiary?

Yeah, that's probably just a lack of recent repetition, isn't it? Your skin will get tougher if you keep trying -- not that tough neck skin is optimal...

For colored people wet shave tools seem really help. I used to suffer from some occasional acne and ingrown when i was using Gillette 3 blade shit. Really nice to not have that anymore
It helps a lot. I still get ingrowns sometimes though but overall my face is way smoother wet shaving. It's actually why I keep shaving, if I let myself go say a week my face breaks out a bit and I get some ingrown. It sucks.

Just did my first full shave today
:lawd
I smell like fucking MAN

Really want to try this soap:

Might buy next. Gondolier scent.

^ I use the sensitive version of that (black tub). yeah, you don't need much. and I'm still using sampler blade pack I got in maybe march of last year, even though I already found the brand I liked months ago.
-
WTF is this shit? I grow a full on beard because I'm lazy and don't want to fucking maintain anything.

After having alot of problems with skin irritation from disposables (I probably overused them to be honest) I went the other route and just got a pretty dope electric shaver, braun 790 that was 1/2 off on amazon after xmas last year.
I'm quite happy with it, although I don't have a very heavy beard at all.
