If you can't beat 'em, buy 'em.
Wonder what they will be in 10 years. Glad I invested early!

I read all of Anonymous's post as James Spader wearing that stupid hat and I can't take any of them seriously.

Are they Adam Sandler movies, or Adam Sandler-produced movies?
I don't really care either way. Just curious.

According to the update they sent investors we can count on him being in at least 2 of the 4 films. Meh....
But their new model of paying more for movies than hollywood (outside of blockbusters) is going to work, trust me.
-
They have the data to see what streams, unlike other companies

Chrouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2 :hyper

I'm hoping Daredevil is awesome

Shaking up the movie industry is a really great thing and I wish them the best, but I got no interest in watching a bunch of Adam Sandler movies so they're going to need to branch out from that very soon.

"Netflix decides to foot the bill for Adam Sandler's next four vacations"
-
Seems like a smart move. I’m excited that Crouching Tiger is getting a sequel. I was super LTTP on that one, but it struck me that it could have been easily adapted into a fantastic, dramatic Star Wars prequel movie.
I’m ambivalent about the Sandler announcement, though it’s savvy of Netflix to make this move, considering the article states Sandler’s movies are among the most-streamed on their service, despite tepid box office performance.
-
His sales are hardly 'tepid', Grown-Ups 2 made like a quarter billion dollars. Dude makes absolute garbage, but people show up for it en masse. I guess he realized he could basically make the fake movies from Funny People and still get a huge check, I can't knock the hustle.
-
I was referring to a statement in the featured article which stated that box office performance was unimpressive. I have no actual data of my own. Also worth noting: I have no horse in this race.
Funny People was great, and I think even at the time Sandler was parodying the position in which he found himself.
There are a heap of other movies Sandler did in the last decade which tanked. I’m guessing those are the article’s focus rather than Grown-Ups 1&2.

Chrouching Tiger is actually just one part of a long story. They have a lot of material to draw from.
-
I think sandler's only recent comedy bombs are the r rated ones (bucky larson, that's my boy, grandmas boy, etc). otherwise iirc they do pretty good.
now that i think of it a sequel to bucky larson would be pretty neat.
-
Are you discounting classification of Jack & Jill as a comedy, or did your subconscious simply block it from memory to protect your conscious mind?
-
wasn't that pg13?
and I did watch it, wasn't impressed. I wanted a horror on the level of bucky larson or going overboard.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Crouching Tiger. Yuen Woo-Ping will always deserve the benefit of the doubt, but WTF with making it an English language movie?
honestly I'd be happier if Netflix kept throwing money at the small time distributors and reeled in a plurality of the arthouse fare that's out there. They do a pretty good job of that now, if they wanted to they could seriously corner the market on lower-profile (but excellent) films.

They already have Magnolia and The Weinstein Company so that's pretty much half of them right there. They just need to get Sony Classic Pictures and Fox Searchlight on board but they probably cost too much. A big bummer was that they used to have Drafthouse Films too but I believe they just lost them to Amazon.

Shocking no one, the first of the Netflix Sandler movies sounds really awful and is also super-offensive to Native Americans:
About a dozen Native American actors quit the set of a new Adam Sandler film, produced by Netflix, to protest the script's portrayal of Apache culture and what the actors claim are racist jokes about native women and elders.
According to a report by Indian Country, the actors of "The Ridiculous Six," a spoof of the classic western flick "The Magnificent Seven," complained to producers about the offensive stereotypes, which include the naming of female characters as Beaver's Breath and No Bra. One scene also has a native woman "squatting and urinating while smoking a peace pipe."
Allison Young, a Navajo Nation tribal member and student, said the actors talked to the producers and told them what they found offensive. "They just told us, 'If you guys are so sensitive, you should leave,'"she said. "I didn't want to cry but the feeling just came over me. This is supposed to be a comedy that makes you laugh. A film like this should not make someone feel this way."
Loren Anthony, another tribal member and actor, told Indian Country that while he initially had reservations about appearing in the film, producers had assured him the jokes would not be racist. But from the very beginning, he said, things "started getting weird" and what were supposed to be jokes were simply offensive.
Netflix defends the film as a supposed satire. "The movie has 'ridiculous' in the title for a reason: because it is ridiculous," the company said in a statement. "It is a broad satire of Western movies and the stereotypes they popularized, featuring a diverse cast that is not only part of—but in on—the joke."
"The Ridiculous Six" follows a string of flops for Sandler, whose recent films include the 2012 movie "Jack and Jill," which succeeded in winning every single category at the Razzies that year. His latest production stars Nick Nolte, Steve Buscemi, Will Forte, and Vanilla Ice.
"Nothing has changed," Young says. "We are still just Hollywood Indians."

what's the big deal. sure it's ignorant, but can native americans even afford netflix?
-
urinating while smoking a peace pipe, sounds like an accurate representation of native american culture to me, not sure what the problem is

There are a few friends I have that without fail watch the latest Adam Sandler movies. If for whatever reason there is a spare 2 hours on a weekend, they have to pop in Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, or The Waterboy.
He has a dedicated enough following so this seems like a good move.

Being an Adam Sandler fan in 2015 is like being an Eminem fan in 2015. Just fucking sad. In fact I'm pretty sure there's a lot of overlap between both fanbases.
