Title: A Call for Help
Post by: Boogie on October 20, 2014, 06:32:25 PM
Hey Borians.

I come to you all today on a serious matter.  My bro did two tours in Afghanistan back in 2006, and he has felt that the effects of PTSD have been growing on him.  He has never felt comfortable to share any details with me, but he feels the need to do something about it and get help, both for himself, but especially for the sake of his two young kids.

Money is tight for him, and he doesn't feel that going through "the system" in this country will provide sufficient help.  However, he is very embarrassed to ask for money, and wants to try and raise money discretely and anonymously.  He asked me for help, and I immediately thought of here.

So, while I am hesitant to come begging for money, I am going to throw the gofundme link out, and if you are willing to contribute something, he, and I, would really appreciate it.  If you do, I just ask that in any donation comments, you not refer to me, or even The Bore, in the interests of discretion.

Thank you.

Sorry about your brother's condition and that the system (in whatever way that it has) failed him. It seems like he wrote the gofundme page description and he seems like a p. cool guy.

I am not an expert on Canadian income tax law, but I have heard some horror stories from people in the U.S. about donation drives being treated as taxable income instead of gifts, so I just thought I'd ask if you or he has investigated that... someone with his affliction probably shouldn't leave that issue unresolved and have it be a surprise down the line.

And I'll be donating of course.

Thanks guys.

I'll bump the thread for a bit just for any fresh eyes to see it.

And thanks for the tax consideration issues, karakand.  Will advise him to check on that

One last (more or less) bump.

done.

Thanks.  And thanks for the FB share.  Didn't feel comfortable showing my appreciation on there lest FB's voodoo algorithms show it on my page and my family go "whaaa?".  But thanks.   :heart

I'm sorry for being such a slacker for not responding, mac.  Issue appears to have been resolved, just sent a donation through successfully as a test, if you were still interesting in putting in a donation.
