I read some of the comics, they were alright, the writing in this seems a lot better and closer to the games though.

I don't really have any strong opinions either way. Borderlands doesn't seem like the universe most worthy of expanding, but I doubt this will have the exact same tone as the games or the same people working on it.

Will buy on steam sale for like $5 in a year or two, probably never play

I mean Jack was a decent little villain. Weird that they're framing multiple games around his character tho.

It's not a great universe, but I like a lot of how it's kinda NOT explained. Like the one town in Borderlands 2 where you help them with a disease and then put up a shield and the bar is near it. Like you only get little bits and pieces of their existence and there's always this quirky air of mystery about everything in the world. Which is why I never had complaints about the first game or the environments (especially since some of the first game reminded me of driving in the American Southwest) because it's all kinda picking at my brain about the areas and things in them: why are they here?
Plus the stuff like the Tannis logs and so on is right up my alley.
The comics kinda went the wrong way by trying to explain every characters backstory and repeating events of the game instead of going with new characters in the world like this is doing. Though I did kinda like the framing device of how the original four vault hunters wind up by circumstance on Marcus' bus for the start of that game and his tale telling them of The Vault. Though that's another "less is more" thing since it kinda implies, like the end of the first game with the reveal of the Angel that there's bigger forces at play, but the series is almost decidedly refusing to do much more than sketch them out.
EDIT: Actually, what it kinda reminds me of is the start of Fables (the comic, not the game) where everything hints around The Adversary but the comic gives you basically no information on him other than he's bad for like 40-50 issues.

I never liked the story or the characters in the Borderlands series and I'm also getting tired of Telltale's lack of innovation. That being said, I will probably pick up the Game of Thrones spin-off.

Played the first episode. It's perfectly fine. Good I would say even. Especially for a first episode. Felt really long actually storywise and told a complete story and set the table very well.
If you hate all things borderlands for whatever reason, I guess you won't like it, but if you are a normal person who just enjoys a fun sort of action adventure romp and doesn't really mind or care about the borderlands wrapper, then I think you will probably like it.
I don't like it as much as say wolf among us as I really dug the noir tone of that one. Nor does it have the sort of gripping heart-rending feel of the first walking dead season but its probably the most "fun" of these style of games and it doesn't take itself as seriously as those two titles. The writing isn't anything like the Borderland games. I mean its got the cynicism of that world but its not built around memes or whatever some people felt borderlands 2 was about.
If you are burned out on Telltale games then this isn't the one to change that but its fine for what it is.

Because Jack is basically all they've got. He's the beginning and end of their interesting characters. They have some other forgettable bosses, they've got Siffel character archetypes, none of which have any story or dialogue or personality attached with them. So it's Jack.

Most of it stuck with me pretty well but I think that's because I liked the first episode so much. It was maybe the best first episode of anything they've done with this style of game.

Finished episode 2.
Shorter than the first as expected but still worthwhile from a plot perspective.
I can safely say this is not the disaster that many predicated. It's good. Even if I hated borderlands as a franchise this is a worthwhile game and story in its own right.

Finally got around to finishing this. It was good. There is a slightly odd twist down the end stage but whatever. That's a subjective opinion. Overall found it funny and charming and will definitely play the inevitable sequel.
Also good music selection.

I recently played through this and thought it was really well done. I too can't wait for season 2, hopefully they fix their damn engine and its faults.
