kim jong-un wonyes, yes he did. (http://variety.com/2014/film/news/sony-cancels-theatrical-release-for-the-interview-on-christmas-1201382032/)
yeah can anyone sum this shit up / have a good cumulative link to the leaks? :ohhh
I cannot fucking believe this hack managed to get the movie cancelled.
That's fucking unbelievable.
A bunch of hackers from North Korea supported by Kim Jong Cheeselover got that shit done. THEY GOT IT DONE. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
How the fuck is that possible?
yeah the theater threats did it in; not only would that be bad for the movie itself, but probably any other movie too.
So the movie has been cancelled. Terrorists win. What happens if someone makes a movie about China or ISIS now? Cancel over threats? This makes sony look even more weak.
If I were Sony I would pull it out of theatres. Then release digitally because fuck you. Instead, they let them win and have now set a horrible precedent for creativity. But then again NK is close to Japan, and japan likely treats Nk 1000000x more seriously than we do
Can't Obama just drone these fuckers to death?
:yeshrug
I only heard paul reiser emailed sony about mad about you dvds. doubt anything else tops it.
Wow, how is this sad at all? People ask for TV shows to get released on DVD all the time ("Living Single" is one of the greatest demanded unreleased shows from Warner Bros, for example.) This is literally a reasonable business email; you are just used to no one asking anything of you because you have nothing to offer in terms of help for anyone because you're just a sad sad pile of despair and unwashed socks.
Fire Sam Biddle.
This is the best thing that could have possibly happened to this movie. When it's inevitably released (probably VOD or direct to disc), scores of people who previously had zero interest in it will buy/rent out of sheer curiosity. By accounts it isn't very good, but it could be absolute dogshit and will now probably end up making double what it would have without the controversy.
That said, this reaction isn't surprising in the least. We're a nation of pussies now. Every time something like this happens nowadays I think about Carlin's "Pussification of America" bit from years ago and wish he were still alive to see it, because that was some Nostradamus-type prediction shit.
Here's a pretty good day by day summary of what all has happened (so far)
http://deadline.com/2014/12/sony-hack-timeline-any-pascal-the-interview-north-korea-1201325501/
New Regency scraps plans to produced an untitled thriller that was to be set in North Korea. The film was to star Steve Carell for director Gore Verbinski. Steve Conrad wrote the script.

Night at the Museum 3 would have curb stomped it anyway. The multiplex schedule is about to become jam packed and they probably would have lost our anyway.

I think there were emails leaked that Sony themselves thought The Interview was unfunny shit. But they trash talked so many of their own movies and actors I can't keep it all straight. :lol

They shit talked EVERYONE. But even their own employees (the e-mails were the studio heads) are sick of Adam Sandler films. There was a leaked "complaint" document that had people complaining about the numerous Adam Sandler films. :lol
Channing Tatums e-mail over 22 Jump Street was :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

In August, Tatum sent the following email to Sony co-chairman Amy Pascal, seemingly to express his interest in starring in a new Ghostbusters film: "Let us show the world The DarkSide and let us fight it with all the glory and epicness of a HUGE BATMAN BEGINS MOVIE. I know we can make this a huge franchise. Fun adventure craziness. COME OONNNN!!!"
can't wait for the leaked email chains with shu and all the other playstation guys having their own "bitch about and make fun of neogaf" thread just like ours

I so hope one of GAF's heroes has an email that says "Like fucking GAF matters, basement dwelling fegs"
That new duality will be tasty.

Someone brought this up and was talking about how Sony must be a pretty shady company in order to have so much stuff go wrong just by exposing their emails. Dude doesn't get that any company that had their emails exposed like this would not fare much better.

By accounts it isn't very good, but it could be absolute dogshit and will now probably end up making double what it would have without the controversy.Eh, when it's inevitably released years from now people won't care. No one is going to touch this for a long time for fear they'll also suffer a hack, and any attempts by Sony to release it will just mean more bad press for them. This is just going to be a big 100 million disaster for Sony.

Use corporate email to send racist jokes and sexual puns brehs....They probably don't know that you're supposed to do that in forums.

True story.
A certain company had a proclivity for their executives going apeshit. Let's call them "D company" or maybe "Ish Network". Anyhoo, in the early 2000s they decided to implement a system to stop any emails with inappropriate language and swearing to be sent. They bough the software but then leadership quickly noticed that their emails to internal employees were getting blocked because of inappropriate language. The vendor was like "The software is supposed to do that. That's why you bought it." This escalated to the point where the leadership from this company essentially called up the CEO of the vendor and demanded that they alter their software immediately to allow inappropriate language to be sent internally but block it externally or else. They ended up making the change.
Keep in mind, this was the same company where one of the executives sued the CEO for a large amount of money because he had called her a "cunt" in a board meeting then fired her on the spot. They settled, but it must've been in the millions. Delightful company.
someone on my fb is convinced the hackers are disney because they want to expose sony, weaken their public image for not selling off spider-man rights

I wish somebody would call me a "cunt" then give me 2 million dollars.

Talked to my mom about this thing and she was like "how would Americans feel if they made a movie like this about Obama?"
We all know how that'd go though, ma. (http://i.imgur.com/JgZs64Q.png)
I say go ahead and make a movie about obama
some theaters were planning to show Team America in its place. now, Paramount banned them from showing Team America, a decade old movie about puppets.

American's are all for the open exchange of ideas and freedom until someone gets hurt and suddenly we're sticking hummus in people's asses. The studios realize this and they're taking precautions to avoid any backlash.
Where the FUCK is George Bush Jr when you need him?
lord knows shooting up a movie theater shocks the country into major changes.

put it on Netflix.
put it on Netflix.
Netflix doesn't want it. The digital distributors are just as afraid, if not more so than the theater chains. They don't want to be hacked to hell and all their private shit out there.

Some speculation is that Sony is considering scrapping the whole thing and collecting insurance on it, which they wouldn't be able to do if they did a VOD release. I still think they just shelve it for a while, and release it after everything's cooled down.

Cancelling the movie is for the best. It involves Seth Rogen, which is pretty much the seal of shit these days.

I like Seth Rogen. Been a fan since The 40 Year Old Virgin. Which was almost 10 years ago, good Christ.
Neighbors wasn't as funny as I'd hoped based on how much I laughed at the preview trailers.I was the exact opposite. The trailer looked awful to me but I found myself way more entertained than I thought I would be.
Pineapple Express is a goddamn classic.
Laughed my ass off at Neighbors and This is the End. Really wanted to see The Interview, but whatevz.
FBI just confirmed that NK was involved in the hack.
I'd like it to take place in the 90's when they're all adultsThis is how dreams are ruined. I love you but that is an awful idea

I felt like I probably made a mistake in watching all the trailers for Neighbors. All the shock laughs were spoiled ahead of time.
adding in another vote for Observe and Report. great movie with a real fucked up take on mental disabilities.

Boo on NK for letting Sony off easy. I hope that sometime in the future Kim forces Sony to make an NK propaganda film headed by a world famous director. That would be the most awesome thing ever.

DPRK should kidnap David Fincher and force him to make a Seven remake about the sins of capitalism.
“They’re pretty stable networks normally,” Madory said. “In the last 24 hours or so, the networks in North Korea are under some kind of duress, but I can’t tell you exactly what’s causing it.” Possible reasons include an attack by another nation or third-party hackers, he said, but also things like power outages and network maintenance. “There’s no way to confirm that these outages are the result of an attack, but given the timing, it’s something we have to consider,” he said.http://recode.net/2014/12/22/north-koreas-internet-connections-disrupted-may-be-under-attack/
