Title: Got a3D0 for Christmas... what's good?

So, my best friend bought me a 3D0 for Christmas, its one of the few game systems that I don't have... no idea what is good on the platform, aside from Gex, Lucienne's Quest, and Guardian War. Unfortunately, Lucienne's Quest, the most interesting game for me, is like $400+ on ebay.

Y'all know my tastes, what do you recommend on the platform?

honestly I can't think of a single 3do exclusive game worth playing that I've ever heard of

SF2 port is kinda trash but in a funny way. It will load all the time during a fight, mostly if both players do a special move at the same time.

I've not played D for 3DO (only played the Saturn port) but it's supposed to be pretty good.

I think it had the best version of samurai showdown 2?


I dunno, my friend had one and we played it at his house, but those are the only to I remember.

Need for speed is excellent.

Is there a copy protection on this thing? I know that you can just make duplicates of Sega CD games on that particular system.

I'm totally serious, get some full motion video/barely-games.  Its the only thing you can get on the 3DO that can't be found on any other system done better (and decades ago), and for the 3DO versions the games on it might be the best versions of those released.  Multimedia is the future, man!

Nothing comes to mind that would still be good.  Stuff like SSF2T was decent at the time but now has been surpassed by superior ports.  Even those FMV games posted are available on other platforms.

I guess check out the EA stuff mentioned already?  Maybe Gex too?

It got a port of the first Samurai Shodown, done by Crystal Dynamics.  Looks close to the Neo version in stills, but is missing animation and plays kind of choppy.  They didn't even use an arranged soundtrack with it.

So I ordered Guardian War, and am currently bidding on Gex and Road Rash. Looking into Return Fire, Star Control 2 (I'm not at all into PC-esque simulations but its supposedly one of the best games on the library), The Horde (Kirk Cameron, lol), Crash and Burn, and Starblade. Also interested in Way of the Warrior for the kusoge factor. Lucienne's Quest is still my #1 must have for the platform, but it'll be a while before I can save up to afford it. Especially now that I have to replace the side mirror on my car :(

There are also a few imports I'll be looking into... like a Sailor Moon game and I vaguely recall A Black Falcon mentioning some other Japan-exclusive RPGs on the platform.

Seems Crystal Dynamics was extremely prolific on the system.

Star Control 2 is a great blend of arcade action and pc-lite sim. That's why it's so highly thought of. Don't be scared of it.


Way of the Warrior is seriously one of the worst games ever created. Only get it if you can get it for dirt cheap.

The 3D0 doesn't have any anti-piracy measures, so you can just download and burn ISOs to a CD-R and play them. Don't spend real money on any games, they're all shite.
