Title: I want to stop pirating
Post by: StealthFan on January 13, 2015, 01:53:07 AM
I got a Netflix free month trial and I want to start getting my movies there. It's so tempting to pirate all the new shit before it's released, like all these screeners that leaked. My last download was A Violent Year.

John Wick just released :brazilcry I've been waiting for MONTHS, but it's on blu early February. Do I wait? Do I set sail for the crystal blue seas? I need help brehs. I got terabytes of shit I haven't watched.

Just pirate. Stop being a pussy about it.
The practical problem with pirating isn't denying Tom Cruise or the dude at Universal the nickel they would have gotten from the movie ticket or DVD, it's:

- Getting your balls busted by your ISP.
- Garbage malware on bootleg streaming sites. It's mind-boggling that people recommend these.
- Garbage-ass screener quality. Did we really come all the way from CRTs and DVDs to watch a cropped XVID-quality copy of Inherent Vice in 2015?
- Wasting your time hoarding every little thing that comes out when you're not going to watch half of it.
- Actually trying to watch all these things you've collected. Now you're just wasting your time watching these compulsively. I mean, the dude is popping in here 10 minutes into A Most Violent Year. What's the point? And if you somehow succeed you end up a jaded glutton that doesn't have the time to digest or appreciate all the stuff you just watched.

There's always usenet, vpn's or a half dozen other solutions.

I feel no worse pirating than I do watching a porn stream. It is what it is.

Also, if you're streaming shit on Netflix, watch this. I think it will speak to you the same way it spoke to me. Plus it's a children's flick directed by someone known for making gay softcore and a lot of it feels like it's a second away from turning into a gay porno (see: whenever the 2 teenage males interact):

Between Netflix, Spotify and cheap Steam Sales I've pretty much stopped pirating stuff. Yes, there is always new stuff but I'm content just catching up with stuff that is already available, it's not like you have the time to consume everything that gets released anyway.

It's impossible to be a fan of art without being a pirate. Accept what you are--if you love art, you will steal. If you care about shallow entertainment, you will wait.

Theft is, ultimately, love.

You mean the same ISP's that'll throttle you for too much Netflix? Will throttle you for any popular service instead of fixing their bandwidth issues? :smugkidemote

Malware and Image Quality is the only two valid issues you have. One of which is easily solved by finding a reputable site.

@Stealth: Do what you want cause a pirate is free.

Just pirate. Stop being a pussy about it.

But pay for porn to make up for it. I'm sick off all these GAF threads laughing at people paying for porn. Who deserves the money most? Cliffy B, Shyamalan or the girl who can take 3 cocks at once while being spit on, and not even complaining?

Just pirate. Stop being a pussy about it.

Well my ISP don't do anything about it and the rest is... Not really applied to good places, like torrentleech (free sign up right now m8's to celebrate having been open for 10 years). There's always a sample which is easy to see and there's no malware. Always enough seeders that I get full speed too. Of course I only downloading linux distros.

yeah, you quickly realize how slow doing things legitimately can be for newer movies by weeks (and months?).  and now there are a couple weeks where you can only buy it digitally.  like with John Wick, you can buy it now on amazon instant video for $15 or wait a few weeks to rent it digitally and it's out on blu-ray.  I don't know how now successful snowpiercer was but I wish more movies got that kind of release.
Title: Re: I want to stop pirating
Post by: Himu on January 13, 2015, 02:41:33 PM
In 2014 there's basically almost no excuse to pirate if you've got some money :yeshrug you can rent movies that just came out of theatres for like 6 dollars on demand or hit up redbox, you can listen to new albums for free on spotify, you can wait for that game to hit 20-30 dollars on the steam sale of you have patience. when i do pirate it's often for old stuff. Like a kung fu movie collection that is far too hard to collect physically or just way too expensive. Tvc is right about that in that if you care about art you are a pirate, it's inevitable. But for the bulk of stuff, with today's services, pirating is lol territory when you can 9 dollars a month or what it is for Hulu.

What's slowing down film are international releases, price, and the fact people will still pirate.

The interview is a great example. Tons of buzz, and guess what, Sony doesn't release it internationally on demand, which gives way to piracy.

It helps if you give up the idea that you need to keep up with the zeitgeist when it comes to entertainment.  It's not going anywhere and you'll always be able to find people online to talk to about it.

Pirating movies when you can get it easily in a month is kind of lame. Pirating movies when there is no release date for the country in which you reside is slightly less lame.

I think I'd feel more guilt if the entertainment industry wasnt so thoroughly garbage. I'm pretty good about going back and buying the things I truly like.

I’d feel more guilt if the entertainment industry wasn’t trying to block me and make purchasing so difficult. I’ve got stuff I bought on Live Marketplace and Amazon streaming service which are inaccessible to me where I live. Stuff I’ve bought, I can’t have, because of where I am.

All you need is the right private torrent tracker. I know I converted a lot of the board to the site I use. It's quick as hell in release time and download time (watch TV a few minutes after the end of airing) with clean files, if you stream from one of those garbage holes and get all that trash on your computer, you lost
