Hey, did you like Dead Island? Cool, here's some more of it. Plus climbing and stuff.
-
Have you played yet? I grabbed it this morning during the 20 dollar glitch but it's still downloading. I might play Grim Fandango first.
-
Yeah, played about an hour at lunch. It's straight-up Dead Island with less jank. Same weapon crafting, same skill tree stuff, etc. Takes a while to get used to the parkour shit, and I am not crazy about where they put the jump button (R1, and you can only swap with R2, can't assign it elsewhere). It's okay so far, starts off really slowly.
-
Is the parkour like Assassin's Creed where you just hold down the button to jump off ledges and do fancy shit or do you have to press the button for each individual jump/grab?
-
You hold the button down. I still haven't gotten the hang of it, I keep falling off ledges and taking damage from letting the button go.
-
Well, a little over an hour in and I'm already leaning towards "fuck this game." Parkour stuff seems very trial and error, some falls damage, some don't, seems a bit arbitrary as to what distance will harm you and what won't. I've already gone through my supply of medkits just from taking fall damage. And while you can jump fifty feet from one roof to another, you can't climb a simple fucking pole to flip a switch.
-
I thought Dead Island was a terrible single player experience but like most games, a decent co-op experience when playing with a good friend.
Dying Light is something I could only play on a cheap cheap discount.
-
Yeah, so far I'm not liking it very much at all. Sucks, I was really looking forward to it after enjoying the Dead Island games. I'm constantly missing jumps which seem close enough to make and taking tons of damage from falls. Climbable surfaces seem kind of random, so that's frustrating. Enemies pretty much all look copy/pasted, which is surprising after the decent variety in DI. Weapons aren't that great, and so far it looks like there's less crazy stuff you can do with them in comparison to DI. Getting inside side mission buildings and NPC homes always has to be some sort of puzzle you have to solve, and that's tiresome. Basically, the one big standout gimmick of the game is the parkour, and I don't like the parkour. I'll give it a couple more hours to see if it grows on me, but this one might hit the pile shortly.

kinda want to pick this up. the GB quicklook made it seem a bit like something i can finally dig into.
-
This game isn't very good. I played it a bit after my kid went to sleep.
-
From the brief time I put in, my impressions match those in this thread. I always thought Dead Island was just 'almost good,' and that it might just take a little bit of tweaking to push it into full on 'good' territory. Here, though, the jank and clunk is still too strong. Plus, and maybe it's just me, I think I may be kind of burnt out on post-apoc type cities, or at least the standard issue ones we seem to keep getting in games.

And now I'm climbing radio towers. All of a sudden it's a Ubisoft game.
And now I fell off the tower and died, because the climbing, the mechanic the entire game is based around, sucks. And the closest safe house to respawn in is way the fuck far away.
Yeah, fuck this game.
-
Lol, shame. Maybe when it gets patched and on sale. I got way too many games to be playing right now, I'm gonna have to start buying stuff I really want instead.
-
I traded in a couple of games and used the $10 gift card I got from buying SR4, so at least I only lost $26, and I'll get most of the value back in trade.

Yeah, fuck this game.
You talking about the part where you have to climb the two towers? Yeah, that's where I got.

I think Jim Sterling hit the nail on the head with his review

I'll buy it for $10 during a Steam sale.

At this point I'm willing to put a bullet in the brain of the Zombie Genre in general.
DayZ is pretty awesome
H1Z1 has it's moments
As for the rest? Haven't played a good one with the exception of the Dead Rising Series.
-
If I could change the jump button to X, I think I'd like this significantly more.

Yeah really, what that fuck is up with R1 as jump?
-
It's been a while since I played DI, but I don't remember item durability being so bad. Plus, there seems to be way too few weapons around, at least during the early game I'm in.

You can repair the item when you're holding it now if you have the proper parts.
-
get gud
-
all i really did was make it "outside" but i thought it instantly improved some jank from DI games. i played both DI games coop. plan to do the same thing with this. i guess i have a high tolerance for bullshit in my open-world zombie games.....
-
Well I got it for free since I xbox share my console with my nephew and he bought it digitally so I'll give my thoughts on it tomorrow after I play some.
-
Played the prologue just so I could get to the co-op. Kind of liked it. We'll see if that opinion keeps up when I start the game proper.
-
What i find most offense is the shit quests with spastic written polish NPC's

I just want one set in a medieval period.
Stormy grey open world, with crow blighted skies and dudes with big armour, big fucking swords and even bigger axes cutting flesh sacks apart with dark messiah combat.

I know there's no fantastical element to it, but Kingdom Come seems to have you covered there. https://www.kingdomcomerpg.com/pledges
There'll probably be be Czech NPCs though.

Played for about two hours with a friend. It feels like Dead Island with Parkour which I guess is exactly what I expected. I feel the exact same about Dead Island as I feel with this. The voicing acting is better but its not like I really care about that so the whole thing for me comes down to playing in co-op with a friend.
-
I didn't expect much from this game because of Techland's failure with Dead Island. But after watching some streams, I have to say I'm pretty impressed with how the game plays. The story and characters are unlikable, but the gameplay seems very fun. I'll definitely be picking this up soon.

So I've played somewhere from 5 to 10 hours in co-op. I like it. I mean, everything I've said before stands. I wouldn't haven't bought it at full price. You really need to play it in co-op to have an enjoyable experience. And its very similar to dead island.
That being said, the parkour and world navigation is a superior experience to driving around cars in the world from the first game. The parkour stuff is more fun and challenging than something like in the Far Cry series. And the game world and music has a John Carpenter vibe which is appreciated.
You could do worse buying some other games imo.

Good call.

Once you get the grappling hook.
:rejoice

Game definitely gets better as you move along.

The following comes out pretty soon which is a pretty significant DLC expansion.
Just actually beat the game recently in co-op. It was an enjoyable experience. Not a great game but a good solid co-op game. The final mission had to be played in single player which was dumb though.
-
This game was the surprise of 2015. Pretty good game. Movement and climbing was fantastic. The scale of the world was pretty damn next gen honestly. The survival aspects were pretty well done with the entire night cycle being actually tense and scary. Game also looks decent and runs well on consoles.
Solid game.
