So with the death of games journalism at the conspiring hands of monied publishers and reprobate vloggers, I realized I don't really know where to get video game news/entertainment these days. I used to visit Giant Bomb a fair bit, but I fell of that wagon when their staff shifted around for the worse (Ryan passing away, Vinny moving east, enter a bunch of loser kids). I tried looking at their youtube and there are some nice videos (Jeff looks at old-ass arcade re-releases is always welcome (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKJEcUp9FOw)) but generally it's kinda uninteresting.
Do y'alls have any recommendations for youtubers or streamers who are entertaining and/or informative?
One I can recommend is SuperGreatFriend who mainly does Let's Play type stuff, but also has an exhaustive series of videos (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFEEB712170E13467) showcasing demos from the Xbox Live Indie Games service which are often fun. He also has another for OUYA games (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLaSPgE4K0SB1QhQyM3BzTJUPw5turbYVl).
I also like STG Weekly, which is a stream (http://www.twitch.tv/stgweekly)/youtube (https://www.youtube.com/user/STGWeekly/featured) channel that commentates shmup replays (they have also branched out covering non-shmups like Metal Slug and Tetris Grand Master, though these are still 1 credit clear/high score focused arcade games)

Here's some of the guys I watch regularly:
Gassy Mexican (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCv9isdvu5C5Pl1ee19WI4pw)
VanossGaming (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKqH_9mk1waLgBiL2vT5b9g)
SeaNanners (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCq54nlcoX-0pLcN5RhxHyug)
Mostly just for entertainment, though. Hey, it's more fun than watching some bland sitcom on TV, you know?

PBS Game/Show (https://www.youtube.com/user/pbsgameshow/featured)
Errant Signal (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCm4JnxTxtvItQecKUc4zRhQ)
ShakeDown2012 (https://www.youtube.com/user/ShakeDown2012)

xoxak is doing pro reviews again:

Aside from that, I don't subscribe to any channels that do commentary or let's plays or things like that aside from STG Weekly. I just like watching skillful gameplay, so Replay Burners (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC67nOwkRPcY6W8gOK0xLa2g) is the one that sticks out the most to me. GAMEacho (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCfnriDcUslGMUMX4Ctkyjg) can be good too, but they don't really have any quality control. They just throw whatever up.

Northernlion if you like Binding of Isaac or random indie games
His tangents are fucking hilarious.

Two Icelandic dudes play games and laugh at glitches and other nonsense. Works best if the game is shit.

www.twitch.tv/dram55 speedruns Kaizo mario/SMW/other SMW romhacks and isn't annoying, chill stream.
www.twitch.tv/feasel speedruns various NES games. Not annoying, pretty chill stream.
www.twitch.tv/carcinogensda speedruns Resident Evil games mostly and other random stuff, casual plays of new RE games or whatever else interests him. Occasionally annoying, usually chill.
www.twitch.tv/themexicanrunner is playing and beating legit (aside from hints when he's super stuck) every officially US released NES game. occasionally annoying when he gets super pissed, but understandable when he's ass deep in some shitty NES game and just wants it to be over. sort of heavy on self-promotion stuff.

Game Sack (a Nintendo fanboy and a Sega fanboy discuss assorted oldskool games, usually with a theme like "Euro-only games" or "Lesser known 16-bit fighters" or "Data East games" and do great coverage of various obscure systems)

Best twitch people I follow:
http://www.twitch.tv/witwix
Super funny and engaging dude who speedruns 'I Wanna Be the Boshy' and recently expanding to playing other things as well. Has a super dry wit and has great chat interaction. He's been rising in popularity over the last year and last AGDQ was pretty huge and increased his footprint on Twitch by a significant margin. Stream schedule tends to be more in the late night area but shifts around a lot.
http://www.twitch.tv/bananasaurus_rex
Formally known for his WR Spelunky runs, but lately has been LPing older games he missed out on his childhood. Sometimes he'll speedrun a game or two, recently Wings of Vi. Also a pretty funny dude. Great voice, and it's really fun to watch him get salty at games. Stream schedule also tends to be in the late night but also shifts around a lot.
http://www.twitch.tv/elajjaz
Swedish dude who speedruns Dark Souls primarily but has also run Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 2, and Shadow of the Colossus as well occasionally. He's not as witty as others, but he's a fun dude to watch. Stream schedule is during the day the majority of the time, anywhere from ~10am - ~6pm EST.
http://www.twitch.tv/zoasty
Speedruns Super Metroid. Doesn't stream all that often unfortunately but I've been a fan and been watching well over a year now. Stream schedule usually is in the afternoon due to having a full-time job. Generally after 5pm EST
http://www.twitch.tv/richard_hammer
Formerly Dick Hammer. He primarily plays Binding of Isaac but dabbles in other games as well. Recently Darkest Dungeon. He's done a lot of funny interesting stuff in his life, like going to jail for selling crack when he was young. He's super open about telling stories from his life and he's great at telling them. Stream schedule focuses on late-night 12am EST onward.

I like Maximillian and Drift0r. That's it. Can't stand most of them. Max is nice because he hits the level of fighting game dudebro I can take. He never gets super techinical, gets really excited and I love his KI coverage which is kinda his focus. Drif0r is mandatory if you play CoD imo. If you suck at CoD but still like playing it, following/watching Drift0r is guaranteed to knock your game up a couple notches.

Drift0r isn't bad. He's one of the rare cod commentators who isn't incredibly immature and who video catalog isn't simply a collection of "sick MW2 nukes" or no-scope videos.

Yeah he actually talks about this in a couple videos haha.

I can really only recommend Diablo 3 streamers/youtubers, since that's all I'm interested in and thus all I watch.
However, if you are interested in D3 let me know and I'll post 'em.

I forgot about streams. I only follow a few people on twitch, though:
http://www.twitch.tv/icarusfw
One of the better western STG players. He's been playing Battle Garegga almost exclusively lately, but he can play a bunch of different games.
http://www.twitch.tv/aquas_
Another good western STG/action game fan. I think he mostly plays Batrider, Ketsui, and Guwange, but lately he's been playing Daimakaimura.
http://www.twitch.tv/trap0xf
kusoge connoisseur
The rest of the streams I watch are on nico nico since that's where most of the STG players go. I could link a bunch if anyone's interested, but they're all Japanese of course.

I'm really digging this channel that does retro game version comparison videos. It's such easy, mindless viewing. Oddly engaging seeing how things vary on each platform back when things were released on like 6 different platforms in sometimes hugely different forms.

http://www.twitch.tv/macaw45 streams random retro stuff. A lot of beat em ups, one week he played a shit ton of those chinese + japanese cell phone games, yesterday was all one-on-one fighting games that aren't actually fighting games, and right now he's gonna play King's Quest Pinball, whatever the fuck that is. chill dude who somehow knows everything about these games.

Lotsa nice recommendations. ty y'all. :thumbsup

Watched as he played through KQ Pinball. It attempted to emulate KQ5's storyline which was real neat for a pinball game. (seemed real shit as far as pinball physics go, tho)

post up. I haven't played D3 much, but that hasn't stopped me from watching other Blizzard games.

Season 2 on D3 just went live, so you're in luck: Kripp is streaming it again for a week or so.
http://www.twitch.tv/nl_kripp
Chainer is one of the better barb players, but he's kind of boring to listen to.
https://Twitch.tv/chainerfails
Quin has the highest current ranking of anyone on greater rifts, plays monk almost exclusively and is a great theorycrafter
http://www.twitch.tv/quin69
Lynxaria is a pretty woman that plays crusaders.
http://www.twitch.tv/lynxaria
Finally, Leviathan (and neinball) host a (mostly) weekly podcast called Westmarch Workshop covering the game, and Leviathan streams semi-regularly. They cover the game mostly from a Hardcore (the "you can only die once" game mode) perspective for the most part. Leviathan was one of the top ranked Hardcore crusaders last season and knows his shit. The past episodes of the podcast are pretty good.

Thanks for this recommendation, solid channel. I need more of these types of channels, not "obnoxious pseudo-celebrity pretends to play games poorly" type-channels... Anyone got suggestions?

Forgot about this cat when I posted earlier. Strictly a battlefield dude so you have to be into that but he's a german dude I believe who has a no-sense non-hype approach he takes to the videos he makes which I really like.
