Japanese games have been fairly successful on Steam recently, so it wouldn't surprise me.
Edit: It only says "TOZ" now, but the original name for that page was "Tales of Zestiria":

I've been impressed by Namco's recent Western publishing efforts. They seem to be about the last of the old guard JPN companies that give a shit about the rest of the world (or making games at all, really).
makes sense that they'd try out Steam, they've been pushing anime shit on there already.

It's kind of just Namco and Koei Tecmo that still care about making plenty of games for the core gaming market. Though Namco sure has let many series sit and sidelines while Bandi does the lifting.
It's kind of sad that Koei Tecmo is possibly the best Japanese console game developer/publisher.

I would laugh endlessly if they used PC as the loophole to finally bring Vesperia back and re-release it in the US.

Well, then I could actually replay the best Tales game, so it would all be good

Please don't reignite any futile hopes for a localization of the PS3 version. :(

I don't think there's anything stopping a Vesperia PS3 coming out in the US. It's certainly not MS. It really just happen to come out at a bad time.
