It's bad that these fake news shows are better at investigative journalism than the real news shows, but then I remember that the real ones pander to the lowest common denominator
Oliver is a way better natural comedian than Jon Stewart imo. Stewart is rather hit and miss off script to me, whereas Oliver is pretty consistent.I don't think Stewart has done stand up regularly in years, maybe decades since his MTV show and stint replacing Larry Sanders. Oliver does tours every year, so his segments and bits naturally just slide in that delivery.
I've never liked the "fake news" descriptor. It implies that news presentation has to be SERIOUS BUSINESS and try to mask its point of view or else it isn't "real" or legitimate in some way.
they get hurt, playing for the University, and they don't get to keep their scholarship?Cry me a river. I got an injury while performing for my college, they didn't do shit.
seriously, that's a thing? Holy shit that's awful.

I knew what I was getting into. Got a scholarship for an ability, lose that ability, lose the scholarship. It's the same for artists, musicians and drama. Hell, even academic scholarships require you to keep those academics up. Why should this be any different? Gonna have a hard time getting me on your side on this one. Music performance students practice 5 hours a day, and several concerts a week on top of all the school work and they do it without special tutors or special classes for them. You don't get the opportunity to play at that level for nothing and you aren't exempt from the rules that most of the rest of the college is keeping. I get that it's a million dollar industry. My answer? Shut down the industry and start a minor league or something. Really football has nothing to do with college.
Really football has nothing to do with college. This actually brings to mind a difference between U.S. and the rest of the world I've been amused by at times. The separation of sports and school.

Teammate Austin Woods also took credit for the meal on Twitter.:dead
"We felt we ate more than $3.83 so we donated $5," he wrote.
Jeez, did they post the entire episode? Seems like the segments keep getting longer, and says something about how willing they are to just post them on YouTube.
Oliver>>>>Stewart brehs. Right now Oliver's biggest problem is his gag jokes after reading a joke during his monologue. It gets pretty repetitive and cheesy.

I think a lot of his segments are more "look at this shit" in a half-serious manner about what they view as undercovered topics.Yeah, his small show on HBO can't take down these billion dollar institutions.
I think a lot of his segments are more "look at this shit" in a half-serious manner about what they view as undercovered topics.eh, I guess you're right. But some of the segments (like the Ms. Universe one) is actually pretty actionable.
One thing I've noticed from this show is how much useful stuff they take from al Jazeera reporting, makes me wish I had that insidious channel on my cable package to convert me to Sharia.http://america.aljazeera.com/
That fashion bit was relevant to my interests. I rarely buy clothes but I prefer to spend as little as possible. How the fuck can I be sure that shit isn't made with child labor? Super inexpensive shit most likely is, but expensive stuff doesn't mean it's not child labor. For all I know that's also made with child labor only they charge a lot more for it so it won't appear cheap.
Fuck this gay earth.
I've never actually watched his show on HBO. I just watch whatever they put on youtube. Is there anything worth watching that doesn't end up on youtube?
I think only the serious shit they put on youtube. A lot of funny bits are left out.
this show is depressing the shit out of me

This one is especially Pro-Click
Pretty sure video is the only one of Oliver's segments on Youtube that has a significant number of dislikes.

people voting out are the people that are left behind and can't compete with migrants, of course they still won't be able to compete after britain leaves because of the realities of global economies but whatever

Someone should drop John Oliver off in the middle of a poor neighborhood in Detriot.
I'm sure he will do fine.

I wish liberals would admit that blacks in black communities commit insane amounts of violence daily. But yeah, let's critique police because it's easier and safer, let's not be focusing on the root of the problem.

Nice job lying about the police and crime you hack. Why is a fucking comedian the number 1 news source

So are we gonna ignore the fact that the tens of thousands of homicides from blacks are killed by other blacks. Same with whites killing other white people. You know from gangs. Those guys that are stuck with the shit lifestyle from poor housing and job marketing, as well as shit education systems. That forces a number of them to a life of crime and kill the police as well as other black people. I support this too, police need to have accountability but so does the governments for not providing for poor black and hispanic neighborhoods that can prevent them from having a lethal lifestyle.

I love the fact that he didn't say anything about race, and yet that is all the comment section can talk about
A fun part of my commenthobbysicknessduty on these John Oliver videos, because they're all 15-20 minutes, is seeing how easily you can tell who didn't watch it really, people dropped out of this one before the three minute mark:QuoteAlê Haak1 day ago
