Level 22 now. Getting there is an easy RP grind.

Figuring out vanguards/factions/etc to get up to a level where I can participate in raids in damn near calculus to this old guy.

Nothing to really figure out.

- Farm rep / marks to buy vendor gear, allowing you to hit 31 (this already puts you WELL above the Vault of Glass raid because bungie screwed this up)
-- Marks reset every tuesday, can only get 100 a week
-- Rep/Marks is easy to farm with the weekly (now has matchmaking) and doing ROC strikes (assuming you have Dark Below DLC)
-- Stick with Vanguard, since the factions require Crucible marks

-- You need Ascendant Shards and Energy to max out the gear, you can farm these from public events, and doing the Daily. You can also get them from packages from the varying groups, or dismantling purple level gear. If you can do the nightfall, theres a chance to get a handful as well.

- When you think you're ready for a raid, try to find a group on LFG, or /r/fireteams or /r/DestinySherpa (people who carry first timers to help them experience and learn raids)

I did buy the DLC.

Thanks for the info. Getting into a game a year later than anyone else has it's share of struggles.

You need Strange Coins to buy shit from him, which you can get by doing the Weekly (up to 9 if you do it on the hardest, 3 per difficulty level), doing strikes/crucible, dismantling blue level engrams, and sometimes from the public event package you can get once a day.

I'm actually liking the game FYI. Especially for the price of free.

I'll drop monies on any content coming up, it's a nice way to kill a few hours. Only problem is I can't get on every day which hurts my money making and shit.

Did my first raid with a sherpa. We smashed VOG normal in about 1:25 minutes (and would have been quicker if that goddamn jumping platform shit didn't kill me like 18 times before I figured out Super Double Jump + 3rd platform = win)

can't speak for Crota yet (still only level 26, got dick for legendary crap on my first run) but raids are :mindblown  compared to the normal missions/strikes.

And I think the key was having a good sherpa who actually explained how to avoid the gorgons/jumping mission after letting us fail a lot/end game rather than just blowing through it for us.

I'm serious when I say there is nothing available online quite like it, at least on consoles.


Rumors are the next expansion will include the Reef, which will be like a social gathering spot for people to build a raid team. That will make it 99% easier to find a team than it is now.

Although like Demi said, I can't recommend R/Sherpa enough if you want to play through with a person who knows exactly what to do. Because trust me if you don't, prepare to die, a lot.

Yup. Found two options right away. It's not as busy on xbone as PS4 so if you have that system it should be even easier.

Crota raid's only saving grace is if at least 4 ppl know what they're doing (and should at this point) you can finish it really fast. VoG only feels quick if you're starting from an oracles checkpoint.

I'm trying to swing back into things after a second break. Still need raid armor on two characters for 32. Not sweating it too much though since it doesn't look like Wolves is coming until early summer.

I hear that a lot that after you get your team to the 30's the game drags horribly and becomes all about grinding. Fortunately I only have one level 26 hunter and have only ever completed VOG twice so I have a lot to look forward too.

Level 28 at current but when I get done leveling my around I should be level 29. Just need an exotic armor drop not 11 goddamn ascendant shards

Man I had a weird destiny day saturday morning. After having only 2 exotics for like ever I played with a couple of buddies and got 4 fucking exotics (2 earned from raids, 1 from an engram) and 1 purchased from Xur

Got the sniper rifle that makes you invisible
Got dragons breath (teeth) whatever it's called
Got exotic chest piece
Got exotic leg piece for a titan (which I need to create and get up to 31)

I have every exotic in the game now. All I do is hop on reset day and do some nightfall and weeklies for the rep to work towards the faction shaders (each faction has about 3 shaders).

That nightfall on House of Wolves is one of the most fun times I've ever had on Destiny. Do not regret buying it.

So I recently grabbed a copy of Destiny because friends were playing it, and... it's very pretty, but kind of empty. I'm still a level 6 baby right now, so maybe shit opens up and story becomes more prevalent, but right now I got an intro tutorial, and then a couple "story missions" which consisted of "hang out in this area while my timer runs down, and shoot stuff."

Story, so far, has been thin as hell -- which contrasts even more when compared to how lush the world looks.

In an earlier thread someone stated that the website/app was where the actual story is told, the background for everything, so I downloaded that, but there are just some cards with fairly generic description text. Others have pointed out that Activision interfered with Bungie's plan for story, and it has been bowdlerized. Don't know how they'll restore the story to it, but it would be nice to have a little more idea what's going on four hours into play.

The gunplay is pretty good; I feel differences in the weapon types, though even in the starter area I've found a couple enemies which ping "IMMUNE" to my puny attempts to plink them to death.

You have to unlock the cards by doing stuff. The story is super thin. The missions are garbage. The gunplay is aces. You will get bored by playing solo. Hopefully your friends will include you in some of the high end content like Raid or Strikes. The PVP is a mess right now, very broken.

I don't know anything about Activision interference, but its "look outside the game for information" fictional universe is very much in line with what they did with Halo over time.

It's also an MMO so that doesn't help.

Thanks for the confirmations.

I know it sold well, and there seems to be no shortage of people still playing in the PVE, but I can't imagine that shooty PVP works in a way which feels good in a  MMO character model.

The model is definitely Activision asking Bungie to catch lightning in a bottle... again. I'm stunned that Activision didn't commission tie-in books for delivery on launch day. I looked at Amazon to see if there were any available and, appropriately, this is all I could find:

Entry PVP strips away all the RPG stuff, it wasn't until later DLC that your gear actually carried over into PVP so that's how they dealt with that.

It's not a bad game, tbh. Just BIG GAME PUBLISHER af.

Its skill based in regular crucible. Guns largely have normalized DPS, but there are a few outliers in the current meta that unfortunately means you will see a LOT of the same type of builds.

But there are two events that involve levels and gear. One is "Iron Banner" and the other is "Trials of Osiris" which happens on weekends. Again, due to the unfortunate current meta, you will see a lot of the same types of guns and builds.

We unfortunately will have to wait for Taken King before we finally see some form of a balance update.

Leveling my third character finally and it's fucking painful. I know it's not a long stretch but I've just done so much of this content so many times that I can only take so much of it before I just have to turn it off. My poor titan has been level 15 for months.

I know Bungie's got their shit together and there's probably a good answer to this, but is there /really/ that much difference between the character types?

I'm playing a Titan, and basically it looks like I get a splash damage smart bomb as my special, but do the other classes have enough differentiation that you'd want to build up a whole 'other character?

Yes. I started with Warlock, then as I made my other classes, I find myself using Warlock the least.

Hunter is easily the most "flexible" - very agile, and one of the top PVP classes (while being one of the worst PVE classes, to a degree).

Titan are very beefy. Defenders are invaluable during raids, and such. Striker is actually one of the worst PVE classes, imo. Its great in PVP though if you can use it right.

PVE:

Warlock > Titan > Hunter

PVP:

Hunter > Warlock > Titan (one can even make the argument to swap Hunter and Warlock)



Also, make female characters. They have the best dances. All the males dance like cacs
