Just doesn't make sense to me. How the fuck didn't they cover their bases on this, given how royalties and publishing work. Tina Turner's songwriters get a small % of sales money every time someone buys Machine Gun Funk, solely because Biggie said "what's love got to do with it." If Bad Boy couldn't get away with that, how the hell could they think this would fly.

If they had cited it as an interpolation no one would say shit, the Gaye family would get paid less over a period of time etc.

When are people gonna come for electronic dance music though?

I will drown in popcorn if the amen break ever goes to court like this

Think it's been to long since it was first appropriated without credit given for the amen break to get any lawsuits going? There's a docu on the whole thing on youtube.

I’m not familiar with either song, other than having to listened to both of them for the first time just now, so I’m going in with Kosma-like levels of ignorance (sorry, bro! :-* ). They’re similar, sure. But are the chord progressions identical, or just similar? There are no audio samples included in this, from what I’ve read, and the testified intention was to make a Gaye-like song, but the actual aural proximity was unconscious.

Pretty much anyone who has a horse in the “copyfight” race is convinced that this is a bad, dangerous and dumb decision. Hopefully it is appealed.
