Title: Is the forum getting crowded with megathreads?

But seriously, the majority of Bore discussions are reserved to a group of megathreads. Everyday stuff is regulated to the triumph/struggle threads as well as the normal discussion thread. Personally I like megathreads in the sense that they cater to the benefit of this forum: a chill group of people just talking about life. Those threads seamlessly move from topic to topic and foster true conversation. On the other hand you could argue they rob the forum of more diverse threads. Instead of making a thread about something that happened to you, you just post the story in either the triumph or failure thread.

Likewise a lot of interesting news stories are regulated to the domestic and international politics threads. People who might find a story interesting won't even see it discussed if they don't click on the megathread and wade through a bunch of posts.

Would it make sense to add another forum to The Bore strictly for megathreads? So like:

-OT (new, stories, etc)
-Megathreads (triumph/failure, real talk thread, etc)
-Gaming pleb forum

I'd keep the sports and cooking threads in the OT.

Honestly, I think we could use some new blood too. We lost a lot of regs with Gamergate (why, i have no idea, I wish Oscar and Treesong would come back), and spreading our invites out wouldn't be a bad idea, maybe even by PM.

I mean you can say it ain't broke, but I feel like the activity of the forum has gone down quite a bit, and people really enjoy the individual threads that get made here and there. Why not #maximize?

I particularly dislike the movie, tv, and music ones; feel that discussion about specific shows/movies/music would be better served by separate threads, like the GoT threads.

Obviously the gaf thread is a godsend, because it quarantines the shitburgers.

Nobody is stopping you from making your own threads about certain topics. Maybe some topics just arent worth their own thread, so people regurgitate it in the huger threads.

The Bore is kind of like how OA has been for the past few years: most of the regulars have left, there are a few new people here and there, but overall it's slowing down, leaving behind just a few hardcore regulars. Of course this gives the impression that the board is basically one big circlejerk, which causes fewer people to join, etc. Also that's kind of true with the Colification that took place a couple years ago.

I don't think there are too many megathreads. If people want to post a thread, they certain can feel free to do so.

i'm pretty sure there are alternate themes available in the user options, tho

There's a green one but black backgrounds with white text are easier on my eyes.

It's a niche board for a relatively small circle of people. I'm fine with that. If people want to come they come. If they want to go they go. You gotta feel comfortable with your penis size whether its 12 inches or 2. You ain't gonna turn the bore into a "popular" place. It's for a hardcore minority.

Which is not to say people should be rude to newcomers or anything. It's just not the Taylor Swift of forums.

The mega thread thing is a problem, but people seem to really enjoy them. It puts less pressure on people into creating a new thread and potentially being mocked for whatever random idea they had.

Also I don't get the complaining about lack of new members/lack of traffic. Pretty sure there was a time 2 years ago with much less posts than currently. Forum is actually on an uptrend over the last couple of years, which is surprising considering a lot of the members that made this forum what it is left or post much less frequently.

Was it the first one you played? My theory is that everyone has fond memories of the first one they played, so they rank it higher than they should. Not a problem for me, since I played the first one first and it's, you know, not really that good.

Was it the first one you played? My theory is that everyone has fond memories of the first one they played, so they rank it higher than they should. Not a problem for me, since I played the first one first and it's, you know, not really that good.

FFX has the same problems FFXIII had. Just less apparent because now and then you could "free roam" outside of the tube. It was like being able to choose anal over frontal.

Apparently not, since a lot of people dig the cast of characters, world, story/plot, the soundtrack is more memorable. Being linear is a problem for some people, sure, but I've never been in awe of a Final Fantasy overworld since FFVII. FFXIII's problems stem from everything that isn't combat.

FFXII is fucking boring, an offline MMO with boring characters, a boring soundtrack, a boring story. The gambit system was a bitch to play around with and set up, I don't like spending hours in menus experimenting to see if something will work out.

FFXII at least lets me not push forward in a 50 hour "EPIC" story that is basically a wash. Granted, FFXII's story is shlock on the level of both, but I can ignore that and go my own way. I want to head out into the world and get curb stomped by level 50 enemies as a level 10? I can do that from the get-go of the story. Final Fantasy X/XIII don't even let you do that. I can't even recall any point to going backwards in the "tube" of FFX outside of maybe 1-2 sidequests and getting the ability to teleport at the end. Nearly every other Final Fantasy that isn't X/XIII will let you explore the overworld and get your ass kicked. Maybe not at FULL. BLOWN. OVERWORLD. levels but you can at least stop the story and examine things. FFX/XIII both are amusement rides that don't feel compelling.

The cast of characters in both is extremely forgettable and I couldn't care about Yuna's "quest" to save Spira even at the end of the game when the entire party was going to face "Sin." Even FFXIII's last moment/turn-into-a-crystal-to save the one world was pretty forgettable as a scene.

Combat in both is a wash. Why am I continuing to smash X to auto-battle/dive through menus when FFXII solved this with "gambits" and having the party manage itself against trash mobs? "Oh but that's 'gameplay!'" Maybe for some people, for others it's tedious busywork. And the combat system in FFXIII was "divebomb your HP to suicidal levels to gain 5 stars to get items." The only twist that gave was the "speed of battle" was sped up on crack but it was the same tedious menu-driven bullshit that has been the FF norm for generations now.

FFX was the start of the shit that FFXIII pulled and cranked to 11. Why one gets a free pass for being a near launch PS2 title while the other is a near dead-PS3 title that gets scorn is beyond me. They're both beyond bad and Square can't really do anything with that "press forward" adventure to actually make it gameplay-compelling.

As corny or fucked as it sounds, its easy for me to relate to Tidus. Something that honestly can't be said for most Final Fantasy protagonists.

Wakka was the dumb religious bro who had your back. Auron is a father figure who knows his shit. Rikku is annoying as fuck. Kimahri is a simple minded bro. Lulu is queen bitch and then warms up. Yuna is a drab character that doesn't drag the game down at all.

Which Final Fantasy resonates with whom is dependent on characters and story. Tidus figuring out what he is and his own fate is and will always be interesting to me. Spira and the religious shit is still interesting to me.

Also, FFX to me is still the most natural when it comes to voice overs and dialog. FFXII does have great voice acting, but what comes out of their mouths bores me.

I've gotten a bit busier lately, and I've elected to not play newer games for now. Except Theatrhythm DQ. And maybe Ori and the Blind Forest.

Speaking of FF, I've wanted to do a mainline series playthrough again after I finish off a Chrono Trigger replay. Some of them I haven't played in years so it should be interesting to see how they work maybe 3-5 years after since I'd played them last. I play FF5 every year for that charity and the NES games + FF4 don't take long at all, so I might as well do most of the others.

I see myself burning out around FFX, though - sometimes it jives with me and other times I want that game to end so I could move on to something else. Last time I replayed it, I thought it was so slow. And this was too bullshit for me at the time:
