Title: Now that Nintendo's Played Its Trump Card, It's Time for McDs to do the Same
Post by: Bebpo on March 19, 2015, 01:48:55 PM
Like how Nintendo's been doing shitty financially since the Wii U dropped, so much that they had to resort to peer pressure and finally go mobile to please investors, McDonald's (another billion dollar corporate that's been losing money for the last year due to Asia market competition) needs to do what is right for the world:  Breakfast all day.

Just like Nintendo's secret trump card was mobile, this has been McDs trump for decades to play.  They know their Breakfast is the best thing they do and the demand is there, but like Nintendo they're stubborn and that's the one area they won't go into.  But with profits falling, I think it's time.  Some people just like choice.  Sometimes you want to order breakfast for dinner just to prove to the universe that you're an adult that can make your own choices in life.  Some people aren't morning people and getting up and ready and out to a McDonald's before 10:30 AM just isn't happening.  I know whenever I do get McD breakfast on a weekend I'm always that guy there at 10:25 hoping fingers crossed there won't be a big line.  I've been there when you're finally at the ordering window and it's 10:31 and they're like "breakfast has all vanished sir"; it's a defeating feel.

So do it McDonalds, play your trump card for the betterment of the world and to make your company see that extreme profit growth that you've been wishing for lately.

I like breakfast for dinner and I like McDonald's breakfast but the thought of McDonald's breakfast for dinner just feels viscerally wrong, like going to Denny's between 6 am and 11:30 pm. Sorry.

McDonalds' problem isn't that they don't serve breakfast all day, it's that they're caught in an aims/demographic battle.

They've been slowly switching to 'high end' menu options, probably because they've noticed that fast food sales are meh right now and 'fast casual' is thing that a lot of consumers right now. Only problem is no one's going to mcdonald's for a 5 dollar burger. Their ingredients aren't good enough, and it doesn't gel logically. They've had a decent run by trying to freshen up their image ever since Super Size Me but the facts of the matter are, nobody's going to mcdonald's for premium food or anything resembling healthy eating. You might nab a couple soccer moms that are busy here and there but are disgusted by the squalor of burger king and the taco belliness of taco bell with that shit but that's it.

People know McDonalds is shit. Just go back to serving cheap shit food.

Them niccas should have never divested from Chipotle.

I thought oh yeah then you can add egg to burgers like at jack in the box, then I realized McDonald's has shit burgers.

Breakfast sandwiches and coffee, that's all they're good for to me. (And the occasional strawberry creme pie)

At 24 hour Mickey Deez you can order breakfast starting at midnight; I imagine this is a trial run for something more.

McDonalds is like Twinkies, Hersheys, Coca-Cola. They are a victim of their own past success. The majority of the public's taste has evolved, but they are still a slave to what people have traditionally expected their food to taste like.

I'm kind of surprised there's not a fast-food joint that's all breakfast food.  I mean, you do have Waffle House and IHOP but those aren't 'fast food' in the same sense.

Does Dunkin Donuts offer their breakfast stuff all day?

TIL I learned that Chipotle fan sites exist. Shouldn't be too surprised, as Taco Bell fansites (http://www.thebore.com) do exist as well.

On topic, if I'm in the mood for fast food breakfast, Jack in the Box fills that need just fine.

It's time for McD's to just put a fucking McMuffin with bacon on the breakfast menu so I don't have to ask for it specially and get it fucked up ALL THE TIME.

Most of McD's capitalization comes from real estate and less from food.
They've made some bad missteps in getting in at overpriced areas and are losing on both fronts.
I suspect we'll see smaller, less fancy McD's coming up.

McD's is too pricey in comparison with the growing Fast Casual Market--Chipotle, Panera, Five Guys.  For a few more bucks at these places, you get superior food.

McD's went too High End--New Quarter Pounders, McCafe, redesigned restaurants, and no one cares.  Latte sipping liberals aren't gonna stop eating Chipotle for your shitty dressed up Quarter Pounders and leather stools.

And then you have Little Ceasars and Taco Bell corner the poors.

You're gonna get squeezed out.

McD's still is profitable, it's just there are more competent competitors and they haven't done anything meaningful to compete.

I worked at a McDonald's for about 3 months when I was younger. Unless things have changed drastically, their kitchens just aren't set up to do breakfast all day. You have to wash and switch over the griddles from the sausage/eggs/bacon setup to cook burgers for lunch, and the whole rig changes. The pancake station changes over to something else, as well. It's very modular. They'd have to install double grills and remodel the entire kitchen in the restaurants.

I can tell y'all don't eat poor. McDonald's still has dollar to calorie bargains, it just doesn't market them.

That and their dipshit franchisees think American cheese is some kind of prized commodity. :piss2

For sure.  Sometimes when I'm in a hurry I'll grab a burger, small fries & coke for dinner and it'll be like $3.67 for the whole meal.  It's still pretty cheap food.

Dollar Menu & More is the correct nomenclature now. :ufup

The McDouble hasn't been a dollar forever too :ufup, and it's a bullshit item corporate invented to placate whiny franchisees who swore a dollar double cheeseburger was bankrupting them. No legit dollar diver would order one on principle. :ufup

Now if you'll excuse me, it's time to go cry after realizing fast food value food has been this omnipresent in my life for this long. :bolo

This is pretty cool since breakfast is the only thing I really like from them but I usually have to leave early(7 am-ish) while the traffic isn't too bad during the morning or wait till 10 am-ish before they stop serving it. Now I can go anytime :rejoice

On another McDonalds related note, I went the other day and with my order I asked for an apple pie(they're only 69 cent) but they told me they were out and if I would like a peach pie instead. Now I've never heard of a peach pie from McDonalds before but lemme tell you, I won't be ordering an apple pie anytime soon. Shit was fucking amaze.

Five Guys is basically In-n-Out at twice the price.  Their burgers are solid fast food burgers, but they're like richey rich burger.  In-n-Out still has the best under $4 burger on the planet.  Hell, they're cheaper than Hardies/Carls Jr. and the quality is just worlds apart.

Five Guys definitely has good burgers but the price ensures I only go two times a year. I love how they don't really give you a specific amount of fries like other places - they just throw a shit ton into your bag and call it a day.
