Title: Mad Men's final episode airs tonight
Post by: Wrath2X on April 05, 2015, 06:10:47 PM
Fuck this part 1, part 2 AMC bullshit. The real end begins now.

AMC is having a marathon all day for the last season before the premiere tonight. Who else is in for the final ride?

I'm going to be disappointed if there's not a cheesy eyepatch gag in this episode.

I'm not sure I like this competent Meredith

Also not sure of the end of Mad Men consisting of Don Draper driving halfway across America for some waitress is either brilliant or ridiculous

Great shot of Don looking out the window at the plane crossing the ESB going West.

Really well directed episode overall, lots of great moments.

Felt like one of the more surreal episodes in a while. The transition from Don in the car to Peggy hearing the organ had me wondering if maybe the whole office was succumbing to CO2 poisoning or had become a part of an MK ULTRA project

I always commented to the wife that they seemed to show her smoking a lot for an incidental character, not putting 2+2 together until tonight

it doesnt feel like it's about to end so much as it does like were just moving away and we're never gonna see these folks again.

How long is the finale going to be?

I agree. The ending is mimicking real life in the way that the thing that bonded all these people together is now gone so they are just all moving on.

Series finale is tonight, y'all. Really can't tell, know, or properly predict what's going to happen. I'm expecting closure for Roger, Peggy and Don since everybody else basically got an end to their story. I fully expect Sally to be involved heavily as well.

I just hope for one last Don/Peggy moment. Those are always highlights of the show and the parallel in their lives and careers is big part of the show.

Most of all, I hope it doesn't suck.

What would be a bad ending? I'm counting on the final scene being Don alone and sad, so if it's not I might be a little disappointed. I trust Matt Weiner, though.

Not even worried about guessing whats going on in the finale. With this show anything can and will happen.

Thats how its always been.

So this effectively airs from 10pm to 12:15am tonight.

I wish we still had the east coast feed of AMC.

edit: never mind, thought it was two hours tonight.

^I also hated that, but otherwise really enjoyed the end. The last sequence was hilarious.

Peggy/Stan felt like a season worth of shit in 5 minutes just to tie things up. The Don stuff I didn't mind.

i loved it all except for how Peggy/Stan came together. although that "I don't even think about you" is classic Peggy  :lol
they definitely ran out of time to pull that together in a Mad Men-ish way

glad Don got a solid ending instead of something dark.

I was so close to being disappointed in the finale, ending on Don joining a cult and finding peace seemed weak, but then flipping to the Coke "Teach the World to Sing" ad was God-tier  :lawd

I agree with Wrath that it was probably the worst episode of the past two seasons. Giving every character (except Betty) a cute happy ending didn't feel like Mad Men at all. To me there was only one way this show could have ended: Don alone and miserable, luck run out, full of regret over the horrible way he's treated people over the last decade. The show just doesn't make sense otherwise.

Him finding peace at a spiritual retreat just doesn't hold any weight to it because he's always running off and doing weird things. He was racing cars earlier in the episode. He'll likely be doing something else is another week. The hug scene seemed like it was supposed to have some weight to it but missed its mark with me. Certainly no Kodak Carousel moment.

I also agree with pilonv that Peggy/Stan felt extremely rushed and Wrath that it was corny. The rushing up to her while she's still on the phone felt right out of a rom com.

I did like how we got to see a little bit of Don as a drunk, but there probably should have been more. In my opinion all the best episodes ended with the characters being sad and lonely despite all the success they were having in their lives. So this ending just felt so off to me.

All in all, superb show. I can't think of any television I've enjoyed more over the past seven years. But what a weak ending. I guess Matt Weiner just can't close. I'm not mad at him, though. The overall package has been amazing.  :clap

Edit: Just read some pieces on the finale and realize that by being so focused on how the finale wasn't what I wanted it to be, I completely missed the possibility Don came up with the Coke ad. I like the ending a little better now. I kinda love the ending now. Don gonna Don.
