Title: I used to be with it, but then they changed what *it* was
Post by: I'm a Puppy! on April 27, 2015, 11:46:59 PM
Now what I'm with isn't *it*, and what's *it* seems weird and scary to me. It'll happen to you...

Violence and looting is fine, but you should never wear a shirt with scantily clad women.
I don't get the kids anymore.  I'm old and perplexed.

Sounds like you lost for investing in "it" instead of a stable currency such as gold.

The problem isn't that you're not with it, the problem is that in 2015, everyone is on the internet and they're talking.  So imagine the dumbass who said that the solution for the middle east is to turn it into a glass parking lot; imagine the community college communist who believes that they have all of the answers in the world at the age of 19; imagine soccer moms who get chain e-mails and take them as gospel.  They're all on the internet and they feel they have an opinion they need to speak about and they aren't shy about it either.

I barely spend much time on the internet.  I browse this board, certain sections of Something Awful, maybe browse a softcore porn site...and then I'm done for the day.  RescueTime puts my internet usage at about 7-10 hours a week.  That is the good thing about the internet, you can avoid the bullshit if you want to.  I don't and will never give a shit about what some dumbass said on Twitter the other day and it's great!  The way I see it, anything more than what I do above is a waste of time.  I could get mad that some idiot thinks looting is fine but chances are that that person has no real world experience and lives far away from the consequences of looting.  His opinion is not worth my time.

I thought the future was a boot stomping on a human face forever?  That seems age agnostic to me.

People are taking things that can and should be sold as class issues (like the wage gap and police brutality) that a much larger part of the electorate could rally around and solve and repackaging them as issues of sexism and racism (not saying those don't exist, just that their intersection with class is downplayed if not outright ignored). Division and purity tests aren't a good long term strategy for political action, but that seems to be the direction GAF and it's mods have taken. There is little to no desire to have their chosen narrative questioned, even if you mostly agree with it, but point out an inaccuracy you are labelled as an enemy. I think most reasonable people recognize that if what you say is true, it can stand up to debate. Instead if you bring up something the mods don't like you are banned or put on a list for future banning. Conversely, no speculation is too outrageous if it fits in with the popular opinion. The truth can't be elucidated if people have concerns, but are not allowed to discuss them.
