Is anyone playing it?!
Is it superior from a technical and localization standpoints to the PSP (lol) and PS2 versions?
I need answers. For three years straight, the highlight of my summer gaming has been completing Falcom games. This summer it's going to be this and trails in the sky (the second chapter is still coming right?)
-
if it's the same or better than the old-old PC version, it's way-way better than the other versions.
-
It's the PC version with a new translation.
-
Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Never experienced the old-old PC version.
All I know is that it's running on the same engine [citation needed] that Origin and Oath ran on, and they ran fantastically on my rig.
Does the PS versions have any bonuses that Steam is missing out on?

The PS2's 480i 4:3 resolution makes it more cinematic.
-
It's ok. I'm at the Limewater Cave right now and I've kinda lost motivation to play. It doesn't seem as tightly designed as Origins or Oath. Also the soundtrack isn't nearly as good.
-
Yeah, I've had it forever but never played it because I heard it's kind of rough after Oath & Origin.
-
I played through the PS2 version a few years ago and while it's not as good as Chronicles 1&2, Oath or Origin, it is still way better than Celceta or 7.
-
I had no idea Celceta and 7 were regarded lower tier. Damn PSP/Vita stans painted a different picture.
-
yeah, I like the 6-oath-origin style more than the current one started by 9.
sort of related but a fan translation for nayuta no kiseki came out recently. probably won't ever be localized without a port.

they're great games but they really changed up the gameplay. I like them more than 1&2. but I've seen people who like 1&2 over Oath so whatever.
-
celceta and 7 rock. fuck dem stanleys.
-
I liked Ys 7 a lot. Kinda "eh" on Celceta, I never even finished it (tho that might be more to blame on me playing it on Nightmare).

I like 7, (though not as much as Oath/Origins), but didn't care for Celceta because it was more of the same with even less interesting characters/story and even easier difficulty. But most people loved Celceta so tastes seem to range on that one.
I'm sure 6 will be good, just heard a lot of "meh" about it 10 years ago so it sat in the rpg backlog. Now with this now Steamified polished version, I'll probably give it a run in the next month or two.

Hours later, and my inbox is still empty. Who's dick do I have to suck to get gifted this game, yo? This is a begging thread and I just graduated. Feed me daddies.

They're good games but they seem to have a lot of superfluous stuff on them, not to mention large worlds with excess dialogue, extra characters and skills you probably will never use, and lots of backtracking. Earlier Ys games were regarded as being pretty stripped-down with minimal plot, minimal loot... no 'bullshit', and that's why a lot of people prefer them to Celceta/7.
