I'm tired of swapping cables.
-
I had one from Sewell at one point. It did it's job.
-
I bought a shitty Chinese one off Amazon that has auto sensing and its been working out pretty good.

This is the one I use. The brand is called Deltaco and it's great. Make sure you pick an active model so that it switches automatically.
-
cool, thanks guys, will check them out on amazon/newegg
-
Deltaco is a Scandinavian thing but you might find the same device under a different name in the US.

I have a 4x2 switcher from the same company.
Had it for near 4 years now, no problems
-
Have had an Oppo switcher for years and also had no problems with it. As long as you get one with enough positive feedback and an auto-switch function, you're good. It's great never needing to use the remote to switch inputs.

Del Taco? Thems fighting words around these parts.

Been using this for a few years, 5 ports and auto switches, no external power

It says it needs an AC adapter. ???
Edit:
It comes with an AC/DC adapter and a remote, but please note that those are optional-- you only need power if you want to use the remote, as the switch draws power from the HDMI system, so it works just fine as a passive switch (even lighting up the LEDs appropriately to show which device is selected) if you only want to use the on-board "Select" button.
:aweshum

Mine actually has an AC adapter too... somewhere.
I don't think I ever plugged it in though.
-
Smh, I should've bought one of these years ago. Gonna go with what Viscen posted.

Y'know, I have two HDMI switchers. Only need one hooked up but I never even checked to see if either can be used without an AC. Would love to free up an outlet!

Yeah I also thought it needed it and then one day my girlfriend unplugged it for something else without knowing what it was.
I didn't realize it for almost 4 months. I guess like the other guy, it only powers the controller. Which I mean if it auto switches, then there's no reason to use so...
-
I bought a random one the other day, no adaptor, manual switch only -- have spent ALL the time since purchase wondering why I didn't buy one sooner.
-
I have one from Thomson (just checked), manual buttons, no remote and only two inputs but really I came to the conclusion that you need to be pretty bad as a manufacturer to fuck up something as basic as a switch (seems less true with analog cables, numeric outputs are more stable overall). Avoiding the cheapest or the needlessly fancy options should do just fine.

Ended up getting this one:

works great
