Title: someone tell me the best way to be a fatass in New Orleans
Post by: Positive Touch on June 23, 2015, 12:35:27 PM
I'm going down there this weekend and the number one thing I give a fuck about on a vacation is eating a shitload of food. I never been down there before but I know it's loaded with good places to eat. someone plz point me in some suggested directions.

I'll be staying just outside the French quarter btw

Isn't being a fatass the only way to be in New Orleans?

Avoid oysters. They're out of season.

Check out Bachennal in Bywater. Michelin star tier food served on paper plates in a backyard behind a wine store. Buy a bottle of wine on your way in. It's one of my favorite places but is kind of lamestream now since it was featured on Treme.

Another cool place is The Country Club in the Marigny. It's a restaurant/bar in an old house with a no shit clothing optional pool out back.

Don't forget to eat beignets at Cafe du Monde in the Quarter. It's literally the most touristy thing to do, but you've never been, so you have to do it.

Edit: Another French Quarter recommendation is EAT. I seem to go every time I'm visiting because it's one of the more authentic-feeling places (not right on Bourbon) in the Quarter which is generally beautiful and a fun place to be. It's BYOB so grab a bottle of wine before you go and they'll pour it for you and the food is always good.

What's the difference between Orleans and Detriot.

Genuine query, as they're potential honeymoon choices (wife to be is a sjw).

My family on the Gulf always says, "don't eat oysters in months without an 'R' in them," i.e. May-August (summer).

Shame you're not earlier in crawfish season. Try some oysters.

I had some in Texas, it was interesting. Good but not "I'm going to eat 20 of those in one sitting" good, which is how my Texas family members felt. I wonder how/why corn on the cob and a potato became the defacto side dishes for it.

What?  It's two things that are easy to boil with the crawfish.

Because of the spice. You boil em together and it helps give the crawfish (and corn and potato) that :bow flavor.
