Post by: Samson Manhug on July 28, 2015, 10:50:39 AM: A few years ago I would have said anything but Pilsner but after diving into the craft beer craze and trying anything I can get my hands on, I've learned that I truly enjoy Pilsners, Lagers, and Kölsch especially when made with European hops. Also I really beer served on nitro and a pilsner on nitro is a treat. That mouthfeel though.

In the winter I usually switch to Stouts and Porters for those toasted grains. Beers I can't stand anymore are IPAs because American craft brewers have gone crazy with the hops and tend to overhop all styles of beer, even sessions. I hope we reach peak hop soon as start dialing things back. It's like we went from making beers that taste like water to beer that tastes like straight Cascade in 15 years. Let that pendulum swing back a little.

Lindemanns is technically lambic, but I'm not talking about them and their sugar bombs. Tilquin, Cantillon, Drie Fontenein, etc.

Right now I can get a nice Japanese saison at many convenience stores, and I like it better than witbier for summer drinking. Kirin, Asahi, and Suntory are all trying to make crafty beers, but they're all middle-of-the-road even compared to other Japanese large-scale craft breweries like Yo-Ho or Coedo.

Hop Stoopid is a fabulous beer for its price. I think it as $4/bottle in California; its caramel tones are still warming and welcome past all the lovely bitterness.

I've had chocolate IPAs though, and Old Tom Chocolate is also not a stout.

Our brewmaster just put a Chocolate Vanilla Oatmeal Stout into fermentation.
I hope they'll put some of it on cherries. Otherwhise I'll just have to blend in some cherry juice myself. Been looking for something like that for a while now.

I like some of Dogfish Head's specialty beers, especially Sah'tea - it's a mixture between an old Finnish beer recipe, mixed with a southeast Asian lemongrass/chai masala flavor.
