There are a lot of alternate paths in this one so try it more than once.
Also let's star each other's shit so that we can expand our upload limit.

I'll be buying this tomorrow or Monday, so yay.

This is really fuckin' awesome. It's like an appealing version of Little Big Planet with a super easy, albeit way more limited, level editor suite. I think I just need to unlock one more row of stuff before I have all the tools available. I'm glad they patched the game to get stuff faster, but all this shit should be available from the start. Nintendo :doge
Made one level and will post it in a bit I guess. It was when I had no new tools so it's pretty basic.
I like that they made themes for each version of the game, I.E. 8-bit SMB1 can have flying ship and ghost levels, complete with their own renditions of the theme. I wish you could mix and match visuals and music though.
This is actually a really get pick-up-and-play game, too. Fire it up and play through random new levels instantly. Definitely the kind of game that will keep me coming back for more. Would also love to see a 3DS version of this that lets you play the levels created in the Wii U version.

Made 2 new stages yesterday! Personally proud of how these two turned out.

I bought this a few days ago, and I have to say I'm very impressed by it. It's a great start to an idea that should have existed a long time ago.
A few questions though:
- I heard about the lack of slopes as one of the limitations, but what are the other glaring ones?
- Is there a way to see whom among my friends are already there, or do I have to manually input these level codes star/follow to circumvent that? Is there a way to search by usernames?

-Lack of Checkpoints is one glaring limitation flaw I can really think of at the moment.
-Unfortunately, the latter. No way to search usernames. Hopefully Nintendo will patch in these kind of things because as of now, it is kind of annoying.

Some enemies are absent, and checkpoints yea. Otherwise it's pretty comprehensive.
You can't do one way pipes, or have a pipe lead to another pipe on the same plane. Every game just has fire flower and flying item, no extra power ups. You can't make a power up box relative to Mario's current state. So if you put a fire flower somewhere, even if he is small Mario he gets a fire flower. If he is already big and hits a mushroom block he just gets another mushroom.
It's all pretty minor.
Oh and no linking levels into a series which actually does kinda suck. And not every backdrop is represented - no desert, ice, etc.

I do hope they'll patch in a lot of new stuff in the future. I can sort of see Nintendo doing that after seeing how they handled Splatoon (although that was all planned and on-disc).
In Japan, they've released a new character for the Costume Mushroom based on the Famitsu mascot. So there's definitely at least some sort of free DLC going on.

Took what I thought was a template level for SMB1 1-1 and edited it, making a longer, changed-up version. Tried to upload it and was told that you can't upload levels originally made by other users.
:stahp
How do you get the extra background effects, like strobe lights and giant neon mushrooms? I thought I had all the content now.

Do you see the frog icon at the left? That's where they are. You can even attached it to object/enemies and even yourself.
Also be sure to shake the effect blocks since each one contains 2 different type of effects (I didn't figured this out til later lol)

Created a new course, 1-1 Nightmare. Starts out familiar and then...!

Mario Maker update coming on November 4th!
Includes:
-Checkpoints (Finally, should've been there since the start lol)
-Mushroom/Fireflower gradual power ups (where you get a different power up depending your status). Don't know if this applies to the other power ups such as the cape and leaf.
-Advanced Gnat Attack
-Event Courses
-Ability to find stages made by Nintendo.
Still no slopes or finding stages made by friends but this is a nice step forward on the first two.
-
Nice to see more content coming.
I really keep hoping for a 3DS version of this.

The concept of Mario Maker is really perfect for a handheld. I wonder if the 3DS is just too limited for it for various reasons. Hopefully the next handheld will have that kind of game, it'd be the kind of game I'd play any time on it.

New update coming on the 22nd.
Includes:
-Bumpers - That bounces you when you touch them. (you get it by shaking the buzzsaws in the editor)
-P Switch Doors - Only appears when the P Switch is activated (shake the doors)
-Fire Flower Koopa Clown Car - You can make it shoot fire balls at while riding it. (shake clown car)
-Ability to see who cleared your course the fastest and who cleared your course first.
-You can bookmark stages via the website portal so you can play them later on your Wii U.
-Still no slopes!
Also there has been a steady flow of new costumes unlockable via event courses for a while which is kinda neat.
-
I just unlocked the Mr. Saturn mystery mushroom :O

Yeah, there's been a ton of cool mystery mushrooms. Love that they're adding more and more haha
Also the official Super Mario Maker site is up and we can exchange our profiles now! If I'm not mistaken, bookmarking levels on your browser will let you access them in the game much quicker.

I might redo them and add checkpoints now that they have been patched in.

Cool, bookmarking them all so I'll play them the next time I turn the game on. :D
