in their 20s. But why don't they just get a decent wig if they don't want to be bald? Or is there no such thing as a realistic wig?
-
A wig is going to bring more attention to your head and just scream that you're super insecure about your hair line.
That being said, they're better off cutting their hair short and letting it go gracefully.
-
Implants are the only realistic option. Of course they won't do a hair transplant until you're finished balding which can take years for your hairline to finish receding at which point it may not bother you enough to spend a few grand.
-
The amount of shit I would give a friend wearing a wig would be glorious
-
Losing your hairline is pretty devastating because it changes how you look. Your hairline "frames" your face. That's why a lot of dudes wear ball caps (or bandanas) because it still maintains the illusion of a hairline. Or they grow what hair they have left and kind of sweep it all forward (at least while they can).
Remember back in art class, your teacher would always instruct you to draw the eyes of a person halfway down their face? It never seemed right, until you see a dude that has gone bald and you realize that our eyes are indeed about halfway on the face.
-
Wigs can get really itchy too, I've been told.
I buzz all my hair off monthly, so I don't think I'd really care if I went bald or not...although at 34 all my hair is there, so I guess I'm safe. They say it skips a generation...my father is bald, guess if I have kids they will be too!
:heh

So there are really no wigs that look almost like real hair? You can always tell if a dude is wearing a wig?

There probably are BUT the people these guys hang out with on a regular basis are going to know what's up when one day they have thinning hair and the next day they have an almost perfect full head of hair.
-
I assume people could tell if you're wearing a wig if they're up close. So in any type of office or professional environment, you'd be caught pretty quickly.
Within our lifetimes, hair cloning will be a thing. Until then, shave it or buzz it.

Watch out Upstate SC. FemAtra is coming to town. :doge

I could see how balding in your 20's could effect your self image a good bit. My hair is just starting to thin out a bit upfront and the first time I noticed it I was little taken aback. Like fuck I'm even older than I thought I was.
Fortunately its more socially acceptable for black dudes to either go bald or just keep it cut really short where its not a big deal.
-
I was worried about this because my dad is and my grandpa was bald. But after thinning a little around 30, it's been pretty stable and grows out pretty long. My hair is turning grey all over though, I wouldn't be surprised if my hair/beard were entirely grey by the time I'm 40. Which I'm fine with because that shit looks badass.
-
My hair is pretty wavy which makes it look a bit thin when it's short. Hairline is dope outside of a wack widow's peak I have to cut every now and then. It's amazing how bad an uneven hairline (especially due to a widow's peak) can make you look.
IMO one of the biggest issues with bald dudes is that they don't do anything to compensate. Having a decent beard (like Atra) and getting in shape is essential to survive going bald. Losing weight can help frame your face/get rid of pudgy face fat that looks worse if you're bald.
-
Be bald and be black brehs, shit works out :hitler
-
Yes I probably am going bald. I already have a terrible uneven hairline that people make fun of so I'm already screwed anyway. There's really nothing to do about it, but accept it. I feel like a wig would be to telling and even more embarrassing.
-
Whatever you do, avoid a combover at all cost. Nothing looks more terrible on a guy, not even a wig. There are convincing wigs, there are no remotely convincing combovers.
-
I'm not entirely sure I could pull off a bald.
But I'd sooner shave it all off than do a struggle comb over.

It's just hair.
:cac
-
I'm doomed to being bald methinks, so I'm rocking the thick and beautiful mop as long as I can

Struggle comb-overs are the saddest things ever.

Me too. More on the sides though, so I get that Reed Richards/Dr. Strange thing going on.
-
yeah i dunno if i could take it if/when my hair does start to thin/bald. my hair is like pretty much the only thing I've got going for me. when i lose it it'll probably be like complete ego collapse, i won't be able to go on. still going strong @ 33 tho.
-
I used to think I was balding till I changed my hair care routine. 2 years ago it got thin as fuck but now it's as thick as it used to be when I was 19. I had a similar problem at the age of 15 but now I know how to take care of my hair and it's gloriously long and beautiful again.
Care to list your strategies?

Not really much. I just used to use too many hair products and most definitely overused them and hair dryed a fuck ton after. I cut that shit down to zero and my hair is doing a lot better now after a 3 month period of it getting used to not getting shampooed every day. YMMV on this.
So your answer to your hair problem was to stop washing it altogether? Got any patchouli scent I can borrow to cover up my weed stench breh?
:ufup

Well I mean you shouldn't wash it every day......that dries it out. I wash my hair every 2-3 days. Also use conditioner to keep it nice and silky.
-
My hair is dry as fuck to the point of flaking (not dandruff). Nothing has worked. I shampoo 2-3 times a week, I've even gone weeks without shampooing. I use cocoa butter gel in the morning which gives it a nice sheen but the flakes remain. Luckily they aren't visible unless I'm combing or brushing my hair.

I dunno, I shampoo/conditioner my hair daily when I shower and I'd feel weird going a couple of days without washing my hair.
-
my hair started thinning out in the crown but idgaf because i always get a buzz cut and i can't remember the last time i had a fro.
-
Meh just shave it all off and throw on a trilby or something. :yeshrug
