Drake. I don't understand.

He was just a little cripple Canadian kid and look at him now! #NeverGiveUp

He's your problem, white America.

Shouldn't white people be explaining it. :doge
Women like him. People who don't like rap like him. Niccas like him. Street dudes fux wit him. The appeal is probably unparalleled. I don't like him overall but he has many songs I like. Decent rapper but he's nothing special on the mic. Dude is like a Fischer Price babby's first rapper.

I'd been completely oblivious to him until this year. I phase in and out of hip hop every few years, only knew him from the memes. Still sort've don't get it since hip-hop is reliant on dominant personality more than any other genre, and he's got a general essential goofiness that shouldn't have let him in the front door...
Kept hearing 'Hold On, We're Going Home' randomly and fucking loved it. Found out it was Drake and realized he might be worth listening to, but he's not probably being unfairly judged on his MC skills.
Kinda respect sort've embracing videos like this that will give his haters aneurysms. thecoli Drake threads have been my guilty pleasure for the past 6 months or so.

Good production.
-
Good production, he's fucking sexy with that beard, makes music for diverse audiences (for women, for street dudes, for niccas, for white college girls;etc), isn't much of an mc but a decent rapper, has great videos, you can pop your booty to drake.

Or on the flip side, praising Black Messiah and To Pimp A Butterfly as the blackest black music in recent black blackity black history. :doge
(granted I used similar phrases while describing both albums)
I guess I should be happy white people are acknowledging where shit came from though.

Biggie makes white girls clothes come off.

Just a different era. Dude gets exposed for using ghost writers and no one gives a fuck. Dude basically steals his latest hit (Hotline Bling, which I like) and no one cares. In many ways his last two videos have been him trolling masculinity standards/ideals in hip hop.
What a time to be alive...

Biggie was a supermarket clerk who didn't do a third of the dirt he claimed.
So what?
-
To be fair Biggie did indeed sell drugs and was rolling with crips. Was he some criminal mastermind? No.
I suppose you could just say most rappers sold drugs of some form in the 90s though. New York in the 90s :yeshrug

Bumpy Knuckles and Eazy put in that work though. So did all of Wu

RZA literally killed a guy, Ghostface is literally called Ghostface due to committing crimes and then masking his face to get away/perform concerts. Rae, Meth, all those dudes were savages. But then you have guys like Prodigy and Ice Cube who were always the hardest dudes to me as a kid but really weren't gangsta like that in reality. I'm not glorifying this shit of course, but it's interesting.
Whereas today none of the major/big rappers have that history. Outside of maybe Kendrick. When I listen to some of the interviews he's done and some of his music I really get the impression he killed someone. Dude has been on the verge of tears multiple when discussing some of the respectability politic accusations he received concerning Blacker The Berry, and admits to destroying his community as a kid. Very different approach than the braggadocio that often comes with "I did dirt as a kid" raps of other rappers.

And then there's big Lurch literally eating people :doge
-
And then we get to a new level of "keep him off me" in Brotha Lynch Hung
-
i feel like such a fucking lame right now :doge

Then there's the Started from the Bottom video:

don't really care about drake and I think he's about as cool as I am, but I gotta say the accusations of him stealing hotline bling are garbage. that cha cha song is literally just a super Mario song with a beat. dram needs to stfu and go away

I like Hotline Bling, but no. It would've never existed without Cha Cha.

ok lemme clarify: it clearly does absolutely rip off cha cha, but dram can't say "omg he stole my song!" when dram literally stole someone else's song! like Nintendo actually sued him bc it was so blatant.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, of all the Canadian Jewish Rappers out there Drake is easily in the top 50.

Bumpy Knuckles is not a particularly great rapper :doge
basically if you chart Premo collabs on a scale of Home Group being 1 and Jeru Da Damaja being 10, Bumpy is like around 4.
-
He's half Jewish so there is vested interest by the Jewish run media to keep him in the spotlight.
Also he's pretty harmless. He's like the Taylor Swift of rap: inoffensive, even when he tries to be offensive, takes the safe road with his music but stays current to avoid stagnating, and is probably a yes man so he's not a pain in the ass to record executives so they will give his mediocre albums the time of day. He's the guy who goes along to get along.

You know you my nicca so I'm going to get at you twice
1) That's boss music, you ain't ready just yet youngin, but you will be.
2) Bumpy is a real grime. I know him. 22 year old AiA could have whipped a cheetah in a fight and steered clear of him. Real deal beo. That ain't conjecture, that's a lecture.

HELL NAW
I DON'T CLAIM HIS PROFESSIONAL LINT ROLLER EITHER
-
The worse thing about that Meek shit was that such a sensitive flower outright won a rap battle without taking a scratch. Same dude who was crying about Control a couple years ago like a baby. Now he starts doing steroids to get some muscles and annihilates a "street rapper" and people think he's tough.
:doge
-
How the fuck is a black Canadian white America's responsibility? :holeup By all rights I should like Drake. He has a bit more of an introspective vibe and it's cool somebody doing what he does is in the spot he's in, but I just can't fuck with the dude. He's not really good, he's not really bad, he's just sort of ...there. Strange to see mediocrity incarnate be THE GUY but to me that's what he is and the spot he's in. :yeshrug
