I'm in the closed stress test tomorrow, gonna check it if it's still up when I get home from work.
-
eh
-
Yeah I'm interested to try the beta also tomorrow. Intellectually I think the game is interesting but something about it turns me off superficially when I watch videos of it. It's like nothing really hits hard or feels like it has punch. But maybe when you are actually playing it, it feels different.
-
Can't be any worse than Super Monday Night Combat.
-
There is a story mode so there is more to it then just mp
-
Welp, it's a FPS and a MOBA.
-
I tried playing earlier but it kept saying something about a queue and wouldn't let me play.
:yeshrug
I guess I'll try tomorrow...
-
Yeah, it took me about an hour to get in. Some people waited over 3 hours.

Played it for a good bit yesterday. Some thoughts.
Gearbox seems to be really afraid of calling this a moba in its marketing, which I don't really understand. It's clearly strongly moba influenced even though its not a pure moba. It seems odd to me to not lean on what your game actually is and instead look like you are trying to run away from what it is.
The game is decent to fun-ish. It probably the most shooter friendly of the moba's because it has actually characters who clearly are shooter inspired but there are also characters with swords and magic and such like other mobas.
It looks alot like Borderlands. So much so that it honestly feels odd that its not called something directly related to the Borderlands universe. This goes all the way down to how the handling feels, the way the characters speak, and the design of the UI. It's honestly that close.
There is a campaign level you can play and I think its a good thing the game will have an actual campaign in some form. It's a good way to learn a character instead of hopping into multiplayer with him and just getting your ass handed to you.
I kind of like it, but then I also like Smite and this is like a more consolized version of that. You do have to have some interest in a moba or at minimum Smite. This is not a game that is going to bring in the Call of Duty audience and convert them.

So this wont be competing with Overwatch?

It's much more moba and less classic shooter than Overwatch. So nah. The shooter crowd won't be embracing this title like they have overwatch.
-
I know everybody has been jonesing for this one so now here's your chance. Free to Play!

Pitchford is doing damage control right now on twitter

Yeah its been pretty interesting to watch Pitchford trash his reputation over the last 5 to 8 years or so.
And while I never hated battleborn as a concept, he has done that game no favors.
The only game people care about from them is Borderlands 3 so their decisions this gen have been very odd to say the least.

Randy Pitchford just straight up stealing money from Sega to make Borderlands and then pooping out that Aliens game with outsourced labor is one of my favorite behind-the-scenes videogame stories ever.

Maybe this is why he also performs tri- illusions at the Magic Castle in Los Angeles.

Played it today. I actually kind of like it.
It scratches that team play aspect of moba's I like without the stuff I don't like. 3 lane complexity. Buying a bunch of shit and perfecting builds etc.
It's completely understandable why it never connected. It's confusing for a console market that hasn't really accepted any mobas (ignoring smite I guess). And on PC there are real moba's that people want to play.

Curious: Have you played Overwatch or Paladins?

They also decided it was a good idea to launch 3 weeks before Overwatch.

Yep. I play both a lot. Like both a lot. It definitely fits on a scale with those games but closer to the moba end.
If I made a simple scale it would go something like this from shooter to moba.
COD--->Overwatch----->Paladins---->Gigantic---->Smite (or Paragon)---->Real Moba's (DOTA, LOL, etc)
This game fits somewhere between Gigantic and Smite when it comes to that scale.
Overwatch is popular for lots of reasons but one of the reasons is how simple it is. It's a shooter through and through.
It definitely has issues. I think the UI and on screen noise is way too much and too confusing. But its a dumb version of a moba. Which is kinda fine for me since I don't like real mobas but admire the team play aspect they bring to the table.
