Himouto getting BTFO. This is America, we ain't gotta learn shit.
-
I gotta finish Dragon Quest 5 and start 6 before these two come out! Really happy about this!
-
Why would you need to learn Japanese to play games released in English on PSX and PS2?
-
these are remakes
also this is fucking amazing and I love life

That person played DQVII on mobile in Japanese earlier this year.
That game is distant memory.
While you played video games, they learned a language.
Apparently waiting three years for a remake is winning these days. You won't be able to add "DQ7 remake came to America" to your resume. Who's losing now? :doge
Looking forward to importing DQ11 while you wait a year for it to come out. I'm fully expecting a "LOL someone learned a language to play jp RPGs stay losing" regards to something I will have played literally a year prior.
U mad.
-
What are you talking about? My post wasnt addressing you. I clearly would have made it as such.
-
i hope people realize that this is it.
If jrpg gamers don't put their money where their mouths are this time...:doge
Past DQ remakes bombed and DQ has had a toiled history in America. Maybe it was because they were 2d? We will see. Looking forward to the sale data. :aah Will the starving 3ds jrpg crowd push this past 250k? Or are they all talk? Looking forward to seeing how this does. :lawd Will it sink...or swim?
-
it'll bomb, but there'll be enough dq fans in the u.s. industry that they'll convince someone to bring over future games in the series.
and it has fuck-all to do with jrpgs in general and everything to do with the fact that English-speaking consumers mostly don't care for the series
-
When I pre ordered it, it said 2017. So is it possible this will come out in 2017? Four years after it originally came out? :doge
There's a lot stacked against this.
If it comes out in 2016, it's going up against some competition as 2016 is the best year for jrpgs in at least a decade, and given English players apathy towards DQ? Not good.
On an aging system with less owners than even the DS. If DQIV-VI couldn't gather interest on the DS, how will DQVII? I'm not convinced 3d graphics will mean much.
Dragon Warrior VII did 210k units on the Psx. This remake has to surpass that number. DQ8 won't top its ps2 number because no FF12 demo. I think DQVIIr will do better than DQIV-VI, but by how much?
Maybe good things can happen? :yeshrug
Disagree that it has fuck all to do with jrpg fans. In today's localized jrpg landscape every jrpg of note has everything to do with jrpg players.
There's hope and that hope is the amount of crying for this game over the past few years to come out in English. That doesn't mean people will show up though.
-
when I say it'll mean fuck-all I mean regardless of platform, release schedule, etc, they'll bomb bc they're Dragon quest games. like 8'll prolly do decent numbers but nothing great but I don't expect anything more than a few 100k at best.
the situation just feels like the Yakuza serious where English fans should just be happy that someone convinced an exec to make a poor decision.
-
Yeah, it is a really poor decision. The amount of dialogue in DQ7 is insane. It'll be a lengthy localization for sure, and it's not like they can or even should use the original translation as a basis.
"A few 100k at best" is the average for jrpgs, Pos. Most jrpgs of note hover in the area of 200-300k. The real test will be whether or not it surpasses 100k. As a goal, it should sell more than DW7 on psx: 210k units.
Getting down to the brass tacks, better hope that this thing sells at least 500k in the west (NA+EU) for future DQ game releases in English: 250k for NA and 250k for EU would be the most preferred, ideal scenario.
DQ8r is whatever. Barely needs anything new besides the Mori stuff. A+ translation and localization so they could still use it from the original release. I'm not shocked at DQ8r being released here at all, and it's much less risk.

I'll do my part. :american

Still need to buy the DS trilogy. :brazilcry
-
Start with DQ1 on your phone.
-
Kinda want to buy the GBC versions of 1 to 3 tbh. I'd play them on phones but I don't like the vertical layout.
-
the vertical layout for dq games is amazing. made me kind of hate all horizontal games now. it's so easy to adjust the vertical controls so that you can pay one handed, and you can switch between apps without rotating your phone

tbh you'd be better off getting 4-6 on your phone. they're cheaper, run at a higher resolution, and 4 has a ton more dialogue that was cut out of the us ds release.
also iirc they have much higher quality music than the ds versions
