But some people misunderstand the horrors of VATs. In particular, they assume a new, large VAT will cause a sharp rise in prices, as businesses simply add the tax onto the price of goods and services. But that would only happen if the Federal Reserve let inflation rise.
New taxes may increase the cost of doing business, but overall price levels can only rise if central banks adopt monetary policy that allows them to.
I thought monetarists were supposed to be the less crazy half of lamestream economics. This is some peak doctrinaire shite. :heh

Mr. Ted would also like to abolish the Fed. So under the Cruz regime there would be no counterforce to discourage employers from cutting wages and workers. That plus the regressive sales tax aspect of the VAT would be the final crushing (cruzing?) blow in the class war. Then he, or someone even worse, would unite the former members of the middle class in a xenophobic crusade to further consolidate power.

You take less damage in VATS and it's easier to target enemies weak points, AFAIK.

In the literal sense, it's a pyramiding method of taxation that assesses tax on the amount of value added to items in each stage of production until it reaches the end user. You're saying something like, "I'd rather dry fuck a bag of razors than pay an income tax until somebody can explain the income part of it," when income taxes tax income.
In the abstract sense, it's a tax that generates considerable income (due to the breadth of its scope) while incentivizing tax compliance instead of avoidance for sellers. It's good value for (government) money, assuming that taxpayers actually take the incentive to be compliant. (Despite what economists wishfully think, taxpayers do avoid tax for no logical reason.)
