Got to see him on the first show of the Outside tour back in '95. He mostly played stuff off the new and at the time unreleased new album and this was back before everything leaked so nobody was familiar with the material at all. Bold move.

I've spent 10 years obsessively listening to him. I've never had a portable music device that didn't have his entire discography. What a bummer this is. The Next Day was good and Blackstar is great. This would be easier to swallow if it didn't seem like his career was just about to enter an exciting new chapter.

Nothing says FANDOM than having never bought the artist's music. :gurl

Fuck off asshole. I've bought his music in multiple forms plenty of time. Ever hear of iTunes?

 :(

First famous death since James Gandolfini that's shaken me. The variety of Bowie's entire career is mindblowing, he never sat on one style or musical phase, always changing, always trying something new.

One of the the most talented performers to start their career in the 1960's and continue all the way to death. We'll never get another Bowie ever again.

My favorite Bowie content is all of his stuff from the 90's. Incredibly melancholy and experimental, the music has dark tones but it wasn't grunge in nature.

Listening to Blackstar knowing he was battling cancer at the time of its recording, and the impact of some of its lyrics and themes has propelled it to a top 5 Bowie album for me. could be reactionary, and it's understandable due to the emotional circumstances, but what a powerful album. Probably his most powerful.

Two years ago, Bowie released his first album in nearly decade, the relatively traditional (by Bowie standards) rock album The Next Day, which he cut with Visconti and members of his old touring band. For ★, he was determined to do something very different. "We were listening to a lot of Kendrick Lamar," says Visconti. "We wound up with nothing like that, but we loved the fact Kendrick was so open-minded and he didn't do a straight-up hip-hop record. He threw everything on there, and that's exactly what we wanted to do. The goal, in many, many ways, was to avoid rock & roll."

I'll say one thing: the album is a grower. I first listened to it the day before he died, but I didn't get much time to sit with it and absorb it. I liked it, but not as much as The Next Day on initial first impressions. But the more I listen the more depth it reveals. The production is also fantastic. In terms of general artistry, this album will be hard to top in 2016.

I never got around to listening to his 90s stuff because people said the albums weren't that good, but I'm listening to Outside right now, and it's amazing.

The Hearts Filthy Lesson is baller as fuck.

Some tracks remind me of Boards of Canada or similar artists. Others remind me of NIN.

Hallo Spaceboy is another goddamn amazing track.

One of my favorite tracks from Bowie, from his Buddha in Suburbia album

Bowie's 90's stuff is one of those things where it's not as good as his highs,  but still pretty fucking good.

Honestly, his death is giving me a chance to reconsider Hunky Dory. I've never been a fan of it and I have to admit folk Bowie was my least favorite Bowie. So now I'm pouring through the lyrics to get what I didn't before in relation to that album. I greatly prefer The Man Who Sold The World.

I think the craziest thing is that Davie Jones aka David Bowie aka Ziggy Stardust aka Aladdin Sane aka The Thin White Duke made it out of the other side of being a hedonist drug fueled 70s rocked god but always seemed like a rather chill, level-headed dude, but no less interesting.

Anyone else who went through that would've ended up some eccentric caricature with his head up his own ass so far he turned inside out.
