This is probably the answer. Somewhat off putting and inessential so into the cutting bin it goes and localization costs are lessened - a win/win to the treehouse folks.

In the neogaf thread all I saw was a gif of the petting, so I didn't really get what the big deal was. Ok I actually understand more why people thought this was creepy after seeing the video.

You didn't know they upped the creep amount in this game? It's pretty much the entire controversy around it. Nintendo have added otaku bait into FE.

I suspect it's just that goofy ass things like panty flashes and boob grabbing are not considered overtly sexual or outrageous. There are panty flashes in Miyazaki films. There are boob grabs in candy bar advertisements.

Anime is garbage. It was all a huge mistake.

Also western games are equally as guilty for making creepo bait. The game you keep trying to sell me - the witcher 3 - has entire quest line based around picking who you want to fuck, which really is no different than what the new FE is doing.

And Witcher 1 has porn cards you get after you bang the various girls in the game... Wasn't in 2 and I doubt it's in 3 though.
