You are the judge and executioner of Kyros’ law, acting under the watchful eye of the Overlords Archon of Justice, Tunon the Adjudicator. Your words shape the lives of thousands. Will you use that power to bring justice and inspire loyalty? Or will you bring fear and cruelty to the beaten people of the Tiers?

I have yet to play the Pillars expansion and they've already got another game coming.
-
As much as I love Pillars of Eternity, and I think that it's one of the best RPGs in a very long time, I'm so much more excited for Tyranny just based on it having a more interesting premise [feel the same way about the upcoming Torment: Tides of Numenra, as well]. PoE ultimately played things a bit too safe, despite having a brand new world and set of rules, they didn't deviate as much from the old D&D tropes and concepts as I would have liked. This at least looks to take the good and evil concept and turn it on its head.

This looks dope. I'm gonna get Pillars in a week or two (alongside an ssd).

:bow Paradox :bow2
PoE got pretty boring and repetive towards the end, especially with the endless CC.

It felt like Obsidian blew their load and Defiance Bay and didn't give Twin Elms nearly as much love.

So it looks like an Obsidian game?

I guess? Never played their stuff.

Huh, another Isometric. I wish Beth would let them do the real Fallout 3 for me. :doge
-
I enjoy it when alternate art styles are explored, but that mishmash isn't working for me.
-
I don't really get the point of releasing infinity engine game trailers that are 2d cutscene stills instead of awesome isometric gameplay.

It's out next Thursday.

Looking forward to it especially because of the 15-20 hour runtime. Please be good, because at 15 hours I can totally fit this in. Really hoping what it's not is a dungeon siege 3 short development, short game, weaker Obsidian title.
-
$45 tho? :doge
Gonna wait and get it on a sale.

Fwiw, even though it's 15-20 hours, it's supposed to be highly replayable and designed for multiple runs. If it's anything like Alpha Protocol in that respect :tauntaun

If Pillars of Eternity was cribbing the style of Baldur's Gate, Tyranny is more in line with Planescape: Torment, not to say that Tyranny reaches that lofty height but in that it deals more with talking to people and working things out through dialogue more so than other Infinity engine-style RPGs. It also deals heavily in reputation, both with factions and with individuals, that Obsidian previously used in New Vegas. One of the only major issues I had with Pillars was that it felt a bit bland: the world, the locations, and even the story just felt like Obsidian was still working within the confines of D&D. Tyranny, however, really feels like Obsidian wiped the slate completely clear and built this world from scratch. It's got more diverse and interesting locations, really good and bizarre characters, and a backstory that feels fresh. I like how you start as basically just a bureaucrat sent to stop two factions of the overlord's army from squabbling with each other.
Combat's great, by the way, feels like a step up from Pillars. Less abilities overall, but they're more meaningful. They've also added in special abilities that require a party member and the main character to cooperate for more devastating effect than ordinary abilities. It's also got less combat than Pillars, so it hardly ever feels like you're just grinding away against trash mobs.
I've played for 17 hours so far, still seem to be quite a ways from the end.

Act 3 is like 30 mins :P I felt the same way about 17-18 hours in, but it's about 20-25 hours long per playthrough max.
