Just thinking about this. I beat him but it took a long time.
-
Shit yeah. Lil' Snorenado actually had skills. Ol' Snorenado can't be bothered.
-
I played that game so much, I popped it in a few months ago and got to Sandman on my first try. I could probably beat Mike again with a little bit of practice.

That's the thing. Once you get use to how Mike's attacks work he actually isn't that hard. But those 30-500 fights it took you to figure it out back then had little AiA frustrated as a mofo.
-
I beat it all the way through. It took a friend of mine to beat it to convince me that it was possible.
My 10 year old kid got hooked on the game this past summer (emu on his tablet) and beat it. I think that little shit used saved states (after every good round) to do it though. Cheater.
-
fuck no but i watched a friend do it
-
Yup, you bet your ass I did
-
Me and my childhood friends had a hard time even reaching Mr. Dream.
-
yes, one of my top gaming accomplishments ever.
felt my heart beating out of my chest when it seemed like I could actually take him.
-
Honestly, I thought Sandman (if I'm remembering right, maybe it was super macho man?) was a bit tougher. You have to be near perfect to beat Mike, but his shit is actually fairly simple
-
Nope I was pretty bad at videogames as a kid. Probably why I leaned towards strategy games growing up
-
only with a game genie

I didn't play it until the late 90's when I was on a NES kick. I went really hard on Punch-Out for about a week and had all the dudes memorized and could make it to Mike Tyson pretty easily, but I never could beat him.
-
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! was one of favorite games growing up. I'd dust it off at least once a year and play through it multiple times from about the age of 10-18. During that time, I could definitely beat Tyson the first go. Sometimes I'd just pop the game in and 007-373-5963 (that and the Konami code will be permanently etched into my brain) and go straight to Tyson, but I've also done the full run more than once.
As an adult? I don't think I've beaten Mr. Dream as an adult. I say Mr. Dream because I haven't actually played my old Mike Tyson NES cartridge since I moved out of my parent's house. I've tried multiple times, but I just can't do it anymore. I think one of the most difficult things is trying to be honest with myself and figure out which of the following is the culprit:
1.) I'm just out of practice and I could totes do it if I dedicated a little more time to it.
2.) There's input lag via the Virtual Console and HD sets that didn't exist when using a real NES controller on a real NES hooked up to a CRT TV.
3.) I just don't have what it takes anymore as my reflexes aren't what they used to be.
It's probably more of 3 than I'd care to admit. But I'd like to think that 2 is a legit factor.
-
2 is definitely legit, I have a friend who is pretty good at the game and frequently beats Tyson on my other friend's PlayChoice, but on his LCD TV/Virtual Console he has a lot of trouble.
I myself have never beaten him, it's a shame of mine as a big retro gamer :gloomy
-
Yes, but I wasn't able to beat him at least the first 30 times I tried. That Nintendo Power subscription ended up paying dividends. : :money
Ring King was the GOAT boxing game on NES.

Me and my dudes lost hours playing ring king even in college. That or tecmo bowl were our go to games for sure. Even though the GameCube and PS2 released my sophomore year I think.
Ring King and Super Tecmo Bowl were the GOAT multi sports games.
Honorable mention for Baseball Stars and Karate Champ (I think that's what it was called)
I'd seriously buy a nes and Ring King today if the battery was intact. That career mode was dope.

That feel when you uppercut a dude out of the ring. :aah

Forgot about that! I remember the first time I did it we thought the game was broken lol.

Anybody played Super Punch Out? I know it's widely regarded as the lesser game. I loved it though and played it to dead. I kinda had too, because it was the most expensive game I ever bought, adjusted for inflation about 110€ (that's probably the total amount I spend on games a year these days). Relaxing game, as it was much easier than the original one.
-
Yep. After I did it, there was a period of a couple weeks when I could do it regularly. Then I put the game down and when I came back to it I could never beat him again.
