Title: Things you're not nostalgic about but everyone else is.

-The Simpsons
-Transformers
-Teenage Ninja Muntant Turtles
-Power Rangers
-WWE
-Most shows on Nickolodeon during the 90s
-All Legend of Zelda games
-All Final Fantasy games
-All Star Fox games
-All Sonic the Hedgehog games
-Most Mario games

Heh I dunno, my tastes in movies & music oscillate a bit toward the eighties, and I don't particulary remember listening to a lot of music consciously when I was that young (or that my parents were listening to the kind of stuff I do now). I'm not sure if it classifies as nostalgia or just as how my sensibilities were formed. Beyond that I think it's a perfectly fine sentiment as long as you are able to think about it with some distance.

It was my first console and all, but gaming to me back then was just a side diversion. Something to do when you can't go outside or no one wants to play. Something to waste time. Hell, I spent most of my time actually playing. Creating stories with my action figures and whatnot that I had no time for games really. I rented Zelda and found it boring. Thought Mario sucked. I only really played Goldeneye and Mario Kart with my friends. It wasn't until I was 12 or 13 and got a PS2 that I actually got into video games.

So I don't feel like Nintendo is this great company that defined games or something. I get really annoyed when people act all OMG when I say I don't care about Zelda. Like how can you play video games and not give a shit about our one true savior? Easily, I just don't give a fuck about Nintendo.

I also have no nostalgia for Disney. People love Disney and yeah I liked the movies as a kid, but thats it. They were good kids movies and nothing else. I'm not inspired by them or anything.

MGS1 to me will always be a great game, shovel faces, triangle tits, all that. I genuinely like PS1 styled graphics. Most people don't, so they want a fresh coat of paint on something that doesn't really need it. And what happened was Twin Snakes, the worst Metal Gear Solid game after MGS4.

People either need to be less picky or admit to themselves that they have moved on from something. Remaking something just to jostle up previous emotions and feelings because you don't enjoy the original anymore is plebeian behavior.

It proved that Generation X had terrible tastes in everything and to hear them whine about millennials is hilarious considering the shit that they enjoyed in the 90s. Nu metal was all them, post grunge was all them. Crapola like American Pie again belongs to Generation X. The need to be EXTREME and to like bright pastel colors in the early 90s was all them. I could go on and on.

I think nostalgia is done more because there's a certain amount of people who will buy it as opposed to creating something new, which could fail. Nostalgia is mostly done as a cheap cash in or at least that is how it feels to me.

Alternative rock, Industrial, a lot of movies, some TV shows, butt rock, videogames (besides the N64), are some things I like a lot that came from the 90's.

HBO entered its stride in the late 90's with The Sopranos and Oz, while having The Larry Sander's show in the early 90's. Seinfeld and The Simpsons were great. Cartoons as a whole were great. MTV had an identity and was its own thing.

While thinking some things were great or good, I'm not the type of person to think "man, all of this stuff needs to come back".

Post by: tiesto on May 27, 2016, 09:27:30 AM: I think the 90's had some of the best movies (T2, Matrix, Princess Mononoke, Jurassic Park), games (duh), electronic music (the stuff really diversified and branched in a hundred different directions, so many classic tracks came out of that era), rave culture (beats festival culture any day of the week). Though it did have some dodgy fashion (that whole trend of middle class white kids from the suburbs pretending to be from the hood), boy bands, nu metal, grossout humor. Or anything about Staten Island... seriously, going there is stepping through a time warp into the shittiest parts of the 90's. On a serious note, US economy was at its peak, wages were up, war was at a minimum for the first time in a while.

The 2000's on the other hand, was a pretty empty decade. I don't really reminisce about anything media-related from that decade, even preferred the neon 80's and wacky XTREEEEME 90's over the design style of the 2000's, where every graphic designer had a hardon for Helvetica and industrial designers copied the boring flat and rounded Apple style ad nauseum, even the music was getting in on the action with the rise of minimal techno (aka 'mnml'). And on a more serious note, the war on terror, housing crisis, poor economy, rise in globalization...

Anyways, apart from the majority of the 2000s, stuff I have no nostalgia for:
-Muscle Cars
-Spongebob
-Thundercats
-Oldskool hip hop, Tupac, Biggie and the whole east vs west war
-C64/Amiga/British computer gaming
-John Hughes films
-Goosebumps/Animorphs

They got rid of the Not Actually 5.0 in '96 I believe and killed the beautiful 3rd gen hatchbacks which IMO are the most beautiful since the original. The Camaro wasn't bad but had a pretty bland design. And the C4 and C5 Corvettes were pretty underwhelming too if you wanna look at the higher end.

- Flipping through video game mags. The demo discs they used to include (I still have a binder somewhere).
- Planescape: Torment, Diablo 2, Shadow of the Colossus

I was doomed from the start.

I'm the opposite. :lol I have no interest in supercars in general. They're nice and I appreciate them but I guess I'm not that big of a dreamer knowing I won't ever have one.
