Title: Regional DLC question
Post by: chronovore on June 10, 2016, 10:59:51 PM
My son is playing Japanese Star Wars Battlefront (disc) via my American PSN/PS+ account. Online multiplayer is enabled only for my USA account.

We can't buy the DLC while logged-in to the American account, because Japanese SW:BF can only access the Japanese store.

If I buy the DLC through my Japanese PSN account, can the USA account use the DLC?

Here's another reason why I'm worried:

Yeah, the Sony factor is key here; Microsoft allows for same-console rights on 360, at least if the other user is actively logged in. It may even be without login, if the console is the main one associated with the account.

DLC has never been cross-region that I'm aware of.

Depends, IIRC early 2007-ish games for 360 would have region free. But a majority of titles, especially on Sony's platforms, don't allow it. Basically if you're importing a region free title expect to not get the DLC for it if it isn't from the same region your PSN account/consoles are.

Sorry, I think my question was unclear:
Can USA "Account B" on the same console use that DLC?

I don't see why not, then

Sorry, I think my question was unclear:
  • JP disc game
  • JP DLC purchased through JP store with JP "Account A"
Can USA "Account B" on the same console use that DLC?
Yeah, that should be no problem.

The reason cross-region DLC isn't compatible is usually because of different install paths. At least, that was the case in the past.

So long as 1) Japan Account A has been authorized on that console and 2) the DLC is installed via that account first.

Then: Yes, USA Account B can use the DLC.

Sony is the devil, you can't have cross regio anything on PSN. I have accounts from 3 countries now with different games and trophies  :-\

This is the the correct answer this goes for all downloadable content and digitally purchased games.

I believe this is not always the case.  IIRC Capcom's Sengoku Basara 4 Sumeragi will not let you use its DLC on anything but a Japanese account.

I can confirm that JP account purchasing JP DLC through the JP store results positively: a USA account can access the JP DLC.

YAY! Thanks, guys!

That was to attempt to kill the Western Fanbase from importing it or whatever. But yeah, there's certain exceptions to the universal rule.

Nah, it's not like you can't just use a Japanese account for it.  The only thing it did was to "screw" people over who had SB4 PS3 data on their U.S. accounts...they couldn't transfer their data over.
