Title: Is the console war over now?
Post by: Cerveza mas fina on June 17, 2016, 02:49:58 AM
This just occurred to me yesterday, with all MS games now on PC and the Xbox One being dead in Europe and not so hot in the US I think Sony is the only player left. Even if Scorpio is a success it only targets the high end hardcore gamer probably and won't be a mass market product.
Nintendo hasn't been a player for a long time already so that means only Sony is left to sell to this large market now. Sure Xbox will still be there on the fringes with 25% of the console base or something, but that actually might shrink now that their games are on PC too.
Basically MS threw in the towel with Play Anywhere and announcing an high end model 18 months in advance. Kind of crazy that before the start of the gen they were in a position to challenge Sony maybe.

The console war will continue as long as there are console warriors.
Despite not having any future exclusives, an Xbox is a good purchase if you don't own any other gaming devices. If you already own a PS4 and a gaming PC then you can probably do without one.

I don't really get what this gif is supposed to mean in this context, but is Armitage worth watching?
Armitage is pretty cool.

The console war has changed. It's no longer about consoles, games or ethnicity. It's an endless series of proxy battles, fought by schills and post bots. War, and its consumption of life, has become a well-oiled machine. War has changed. ID tagged posters writing ID tagged posts, use ID tagged computers. Nanomachines inside their bodies enhance and regulate their abilities. Genetic control. Information control. Emotion control. Messageboard control. Everything is monitored, and kept under control. The console war has changed. The age of deterrence has become the age of control. All in the name of averting catastrophe from weapons of casual gamers. And he who controls the messageboard, controls history. The console war has changed. When messageboards are under total control, the console war... becomes routine.

1) don't care, and 2) nothing was ever going to top the transition to PS3/360/Wii anyway. The perfect storm of mid-2000s internet, me being a kid, shitloads of fake rumors, massive sony/MS tension, actual major upgrades to the previous consoles w/ a huge graphics bump and integrated online services, and nintendo coming out of left field to pretty much piss on it all for a short time. Even post launch, shit was still nuts for a few years with the whole ps2 gen script getting burnt to a crisp.
