As happens periodically, I get bored and think "hey wouldn't it be neat to own a handheld, especially as I kind of like jrpgs and they don't get put out on home consoles so much anymore."
Eventually I'll remember I hate handhelds, but for now, what are the good rpgs on these turds? I know all about Fire Emblem, it's a favorite. Not too familiar with what the Vita brings to the table.
*pokemon games aren't considered rpgs, fuck off

on 3ds: etrian Odysseys, 7th dragon, legend of legacy, some smt games
on vita: kiddie porn

Vita can play the majority of digital PSP games and the majority of PS1 classics/PS1 games on PSN. Haven't really kept up on the new pedo/lewd RPGs coming out on the Vita.

3DS:
Shin Megami Tensei 4 (coming soon: SMT4 Apocalypse)
Bravely Default (also: Bravely Second)
Etrian Odyssey 4 (also: Etrian Odyssey Untold, Etrian Odyssey Untold 2 -- re-imaginings of the first 2 games w/ storylines -- can also play them classicly)
Devil Summoner Soul Hackers (old-skool SMT)
Devil Survivor: Overclocked (also: Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker) -- SMT Tactics
Persona Q (Persona Etrian Odyssey)
Dragon Quest 7 (coming this year)
Dragon Quest 8 (coming this year)
Legend of Legacy (requires love for Kawazu)
Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii port)
Vita:
Natural Doctrine
Lost Dimensions
Ys
Persona 4
Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel
Tales of Hearts
Stranger of Sword City (and various other "Etrian" types - Ray Gigant, Demon Gaze...)
Final Fantasy X/X-2
Disgaea 3 (Disgaea 4)
Exist Archive (coming later this year -- spiritual Valkyrie Profile)
I think this covers most of both systems... I left out the super-duper uguu games

How many times have you bought and sold off handhelds now, Snore? :doge

Who keeps track of numbers like that?

I love Kawazu and found Legend of Legacy to be pretty bad/boring. It's an incredibly poor man's pale imitation of a SaGa game.
The Fire Emblem games on 3DS are dope. The writing is fuck awful in both but gameplay is great.
Bravely Default is an okay clone of FF5 with far worse writing and the adjustable balance just makes everything feel off.
The port of Tales of Abyss wasn't too bad for an averageish PS2 RPG. It's impossible to find though.
Also Theartrythm Curtain Call is a cool hybrid music game and RPG. It improves on the first one in every way.
Final Fantasy Explorers is a turd of a monster hunter clone.
And I think the only other quasi JRPG that is out that I've played on 3DS is Mario and Luigi Dream Team. My recommendation would be just play one of the better M&L games like Super Star Saga or Bowser's Inside Story instead.

Aren't 2 of those firemeblems like the same game?
-
each game has different exclusive pokemon in them
-
Apparently there's DLC that I'll no doubt end up getting, as well.
:uguu

this reminded me that I wanna play Soul Hackers at some point. maybe I should get one of those $50 used 2DS from gamestop.

First 6 maps are the same.
Remaining 22 are different.

You are going to burn out after the first Fire Emblem - assuming you dont just sell all of that by the end of the week...
It was such a chore playing all 3 Fates games back to back...
-
Soul Hackers is awesome, I'd recommend that be the next game you play after getting sick of FE.

I have a bunch of shitty Tales and Atelier games on the PS3 to switch back and forth between when I get bored of whatever.

Not sure why I'm on a jrpg binge these days. I've even almost thought about getting a Wii U to play Tokyo Mirage Sessions, but I figure after the NX is announced the Wii U should, god willing, get some kind of price drop so I'm waiting.

While you wait, stick with your PC and play the Trails and Ys games if you haven't already... also if you never owned an original DS, Radiant Historia and Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume are must gets for your new 2DS.
