It's like a baby step to adding a full touchscreen. I don't get who would really benefit from this.
More worrying is that this could signal their exit from the MacBook Air level of the market.
Have you seen Microsoft Surface Studio.
It's not perfect, but it really does make Apple look like they only give a shit about the smartphone market.
Unbelievable.
Apple is DEAD.
I have a Chromebook Pixel and full touchscreen on a laptop makes very little sense. You only really need it on convertibles like the Surface and Yoga.

I don't actually care about Surface Studio at the moment because I draw exclusively on paper for the time being.
But eventually I'll go digital, and I'll be dreaming of owning that thing.

I must be weird but after using various tablets and various laptops (though unfortunately, not any convertibles yet), I prefer the laptop form factor to everything out there.
The "stand" for the screen is built-in. Full hardware keyboards are a must. The power and apps are there. Mouse cursors are insanely powerful.

At this point, unless you're looking for something with some crazy horsepower behind it (I.E. a gaming laptop), I don't get why all 'regular' laptops aren't convertibles (or rather, tablets with keyboard docks). They can certainly sell them cheap enough.

Right...that's why they have keyboards available. :doge You can buy an ASUS T-whatever Windows tablet and it will come with a full-on "real" keyboard dock with touchpad included. I'll give major props to Microsoft for how their keyboard cover works (so thin, but feels great to type on and is even backlit), but it is another $100.
But for basic browsing and such...it's awesome having the tablet form factor. Best of both worlds. Surface is fucking awesome and if I didn't care about playing games it's all I'd need.

I just don't have the desperate need to touch things on a big screen. I tolerate it on my phone because it makes sense for the form factor. Much prefer keyboard and mouse to touch. :doge
New Macbooks are doing it right. No touchscreen, good old folding hinge, keyboard and touchpad, and the Touch Bar actually looks like it could be useful (emoji, custom shortcuts and controls, etc.)

what's a touch strip? It's any gentlemen's club which allows over-the-clothes handling of the talent.
Touchpad is fine. Especially with them merging Apple Wallet (or whatever it's called... iPay? :doge ) together with their laptops for secure payment/biometrics. The lack of an ESC and other function keys, meanwhile..Have you seen Microsoft Surface Studio.

I liked what I saw of the Studio, but the Studio is vastly overpriced. I enjoy my Surface 3 for what it's worth. I use it for general web-browsing/e-mail, programming, eReading (in tablet-mode/hold) and word-processing (laptop). The surface cover could be better (I don't like the felt) but for what it's worth: I feel like this is what laptop and tablets should be: Hybrids that have magnetic keyboards to attach for a cover.
Now I don't know what the hell I'm gonna do. :doge

so if you bought a new iphone and a new macbook pro, you wouldn't be able to plug your earbuds into them out of the box. like how do apples own stuff not work with each out out of the box?
Maybe because I was forced on PC for the last couple of years (after being Apple only for over two decades) but everytime I interacted with the latest MacOS versions, I found the experience terrible.
yeah but since apple controls the os and hardware they can code to the metal using c and assembly like sony/ps4 and ms has to code using inefficient libraries for backwards compatibility and write programs in visual basic/javascript languages so stuff doesn't run as fast and uses more memory.
also windows has to work with dos, windows xp, 95, NT and 3.1 programs. thats like 5 extra operating systems of overhead. os x just has os x. unless you count the unix command line os but that's a super efficient so at most it's 1.5 operating systems total for mac.
nobody games on pc anymore, it's all consoles now.also windows has to work with dos, windows xp, 95, NT and 3.1 programs. thats like 5 extra operating systems of overhead. os x just has os x. unless you count the unix command line os but that's a super efficient so at most it's 1.5 operating systems total for mac.
Can I play Overwatch on a MacBook without dual booting? No?
I rest my case.

uh lol
Update: As pointed out by Ars Technica's Andrew Cunningham and others, Kuo's outline of chip possibilities does not match up with what is known from leaked Intel roadmaps. Intel is not planning MacBook Pro-class chips in the Cannonlake family at all, and Coffee Lake chips aren't arriving until 2018.
Will anything ever burst the iPhone bubble?
Sorry u spent $2000 to sit in front of a tiny screen cramped over a keyboard in your moms basement to play year old ports while us console guys chill on a couch with our 55 inch tvs playing bloodborne, getting head and pussy while killstreaking on noobs.

Spend $500-600 (more than a PS4 Pro) every year replacing graphics cards and installing all the latest drivers for a platform that: A)Doesn't have exclusives B)Can't render effect-heavy games like the Order C)Can't even play Batman.
:huh
It feels like the post-Jobs Apple is really starting to come out. Doubt it's possible they'll ever slip all the way down to post-Jobs 1990s levels though. Will anything ever burst the iPhone bubble?
Lol enjoy defragging ur hard drive every time u install a game so it doesn't chug and skip frames. Oh and don't forget to fiddle with the bios to overclock ur CPU so you can negate all the software overhead you paid a premium for :lol :lol
nevermind endless hours tinkering with configuration panels and settings just to make it look half decent on your no name gpu you got off aliexpress :dead
Meanwhile I'll just hit the gym, get some numbers, swing by GameStop for another console exclusive you'll cry about not getting, pop the disc in, and rock some dudes online nohomo.
Why would I keep up with a loser platform ? Am I supposed to have up to date blackberry jokes? :lol

marrying macOS and iOS together and create full on touch-based laptops.
I used to be very invested in Apple—an iMac, MBP, iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, Apple router(!)
