Title: Emulators and stuff
Post by: MMaRsu on November 02, 2016, 05:03:26 PM
So recently I've been getting into emulators again. I have a shitton of them on my original Xbox where I still play Neogeo stuff like Windjammers or The Last Blade etc..

PCSX 2.0

But I wanted to play God Hand in HD, or at least at a better resolution I get from my PS2 with a goddamn scart cable. So I went about downloading PCSX2.0 and got to work on God Hand. My specs arent great, I currently only have access to my laptop since my videocard fried in my pc :(. I have an I7 2670QM @ 2.20 ghz, which cannot be overclocked because its an OEM system. The videocard is a 540GT.

God Hand runs okay, I cannot get it to run at anything above 768x768 or around that and I get framedrops. Aside from that I think it looks a whole lot better then my PS2 can get it to look :D. Also tried my copy of DQ8, which runs okay. I can go to 1.5x native and it still runs good.

I have to say I am loving this PS2 emulator. Now on to another emulator

Dolphin
Now this emulator is truly something else. I'm sure everyone here is familliar with Dolphin. I'd never used it because my PC is a piece of shit anyway and I never thought I could get anything to run on this laptop. But screwing around with the PS2 emulator made me give it a chance. And WOW I am super glad that I did. Mostly everything runs perfectly at around 1.5 or 2x native. I can play freaking WindWaker in HD and I dont even have to buy a WiiU for it! Been getting back into my backlog of GC games that I had never finished and its really amazing. With these system specs I never could have imagined it would work as well as it does.

Anway just wanted to get some discussion going here about these emu's :). I'm thinking of buying a Wii controller and Motionplus so I could play Skyward Sword? When I had a Wii and that game I couldnt really get into it because of all the waggling.. but in HD it might play a little better?

Right now I'm using a DS4 for both of these emulators, and it just works like a charm. I am running W7 though, and cant get the bluetooth to sync or it to get recognized as a 360 controller. So maybe Ill upgrade to W8 since I read the bluetooth pairing on the DS4 just works on W8.

My PC is too (http://www.thecoli.com/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/flabbynsick.png) to run those efficiently but I keep my eye on them for whenever I get around to building a new one.

Mednafen (and by a lesser extent, Retroarch) however, is God's gift to PSX emulation and I'm waiting with bated breath for it's new Sega Saturn development to surpass SSF.

I always end up tinkering around a lot more than actually playing emulated games.

Hehe I do too, trying all sorts of different configs to get it to run as good as it can.. even with my limited specs.

I'm hoping to build a new PC next year :)

Borys get in here and post your specs pls ok thx

I can help you with a few of those q's

2) do I have to use that malware MotionJoy drivers/ application for Windows in order to use a DualShock 3? I remember it being some super shady-ware.

In the past yes Motionjoy was used, but these days its all DS4windows. I dont think it uses any Motionjoy drivers or anything from that program. It just installs a 360 driver if you dont have it, and makes your pc think that the DS4 ( not sure if it works on DS3 sorry ) you have plugged in is a 360 controller. Works sublime in Dolphin really. Just need different controller configs for different games. I even figured out how to make it so you can use the gyro in the DS4 as a tilt sensor.

3) do I need to buy that Wii bar that you put under the TV in order for the Wiimote to work? I think... yes? as it reads the IR cast by Wiimote?

Yes but you can probably order any number of knockoffs and they will work fine. I just use the right stick on my DS4 for the IR, it works fine in Mario Galaxy etc.

Ha, no need for all of that shit as my Xbone ELITE Controller works out of the box.

HD Wii gaming bliss is upon me :hyper

Hehe have fun bud, I am having an amazing time playing SMG2

Anyone familiar with RetroArch?  It seems easy enough to use -just download cores and then scan for games- but I notice some stuff isn't working, specifically arcade games and Sega CD games.  I have a neogeo.zip in my roms folder, but apart from that, no bios.  Are those required for a lot of stuff with this frontend?  Still doesn't explain why none of my Capcom CPS games are showing up though.

I use it for Mednafen. Retroarch still needs the bios to scan/play games like any standalone emulator would. If the MAME core is up to date at all, you'll probably need to download the qsound.zip bios for CPS2 games to show up and play (don't believe CPS1 games need any).

That said, I use MAME standalone (MAMEUI specifically) for Arcade games and according to what I've read, it's better that way  :-\

Never had a problem with Sega CD though, just tossed all the bios files in the system folder and it was good to go.

I've been really wanting to play some OG Xbox games, but I'd have to buy an Xbox but I'm too lazy for that
I have a copy of The Warriors for OG Xbox but no OG Xbox to play it on. :gloomy:

pretty much

unless it's ez like NES, SNES, Gameboy, etc

I fuck around with the settings for so long worried if they're okay or not

cuz if it's not okay your experience might be kinda ruined you know

I'd rather just use the actual console

I've been really wanting to play some OG Xbox games, but I'd have to buy an Xbox but I'm too lazy for that

Where do you live?
