Outside of Transgender issues, I think this one will be mostly okay. Gay marriage is in the law-books. I doubt the Republicans will try to dismantle it, especially as (for the most part) support in the nation has been pretty clear that most people don't mind it.

Supreme Court was really the last place that conservatives could stop gay marriage in any meaningful way and that ruling was authored by Roberts, so it should be fine...at least as long as Ginsburg is still alive.

I don't think people, specially the "both sides" crowd, recognize what this means for civil rights. We're going to go from an Obama Department Of Justice that defended the limping body of the VRA for 8 years...to a Trump Department of Justice, run by Rudy Gulianni. We're going to have an Attorney General who has advocated for nation wide stop and frisk. A Department Of Justice that won't be interested in hate crime violations - in fact, one that might not even believe in hate crimes (outside of police shootings, of course).
All those "little" things that aren't legislative in nature that this administration has defended for eight years? Gone. We're literally going from having defenders at the gates to barbarians in our midst.

I think some of it is hyperbole and some of it is warranted. Immigrants have a legitimate reason to fear while the WW3 scenarios are premature.

So today Obama will be meeting with the president-elect, who spent years making blatant racist charges against him. A man who is obviously racist and petty. And this is the guy Obama is showing around the White House, pledging support to, etc.
He'll be fine and make lots of money but tbh I feel bad af for Obama. 8 years of nonstop blatant obstruction, nonstop racial resentment and hatred. You get some things done, easily win a second term, never lose your cool or dignity, high popularity, seems like you're going to ride out on the sunset...and then this happens. And now your legacy is gone. I can just imagine businessmen popping bottles and laughing about this. "We finally got that boy."
And so much of that legacy directly impacted people who didn't show up on Tuesday. And now we're going to have a Supreme Court that rubber stamps the outright destruction of the VRA. Meaning that 2018 and 2020 will be tougher in places like WI, where voter ID laws suppressed turnout.

There will probably never be another politician in my lifetime that I respect and look up to like Obama. Even if I disagree with him on a lot of things the man was able to show intelligence, class and dignity throughout all the shit that was flung his way.
That's part of the reason I can't latch on to the #NotMyPresident shit going on now. I can't latch on to a meme and movement that was used to try to dishonor a man I respect so much.

To me though, Trump isn't my president. He doesn't represent me, nor my family. It was one thing with Bush jr (Senior was not that bad), yeah he was dumb, and tone deaf and ignorant. But wasn't willful. Trump is a different beast all together. He is willfully racist, he is dangerous. I don't support him, I don't even acknowledge him. If cal-exit were to be tomorrow I'd vote to leave, no problem. As far as I'm concerned I don't have a president.

I can understand that point of view but this is my country and he is the President(-elect) of my country. My President unfortunately. I want to make it a better place so I will acknowledge him, the people that voted him in and the consequences in hope that myself and everyone can learn from this disaster. At this point that is all you can do is learn and try to improve the future. Living in a hard red state like Texas makes ignoring him or his supporters rather impossible.

We're overdue for a recession and his main promise is more jobs in areas with low education. If he can't deliver better jobs and cheaper health care to those people while simultaneously doing the tax cuts he proposed, then that might hurt him.
But more important is what he does against the people who didn't vote for him (or didn't vote period).
