I called that shit episode 3. I dunno, the show is aaight but there's not much substance there. It looks pretty but it's reallll thin on characters/story. I'm a little burnt out on "puzzle tv" in general lately though

I'm only on episode 2. So I'm gonna back up out this thread.

Not your bad, I also appreciate the idea of it being a self-contained thing, but having caught up to the latest ep there's no way they can resolve everything in three episodes unfortunately (fortunately?)

Also one of the highlights of the show so far is when Anthony Hopkins delivers that monologue about "they come for the tits and violence, but they stay because the stories let them see WHO THEY COULD BE!" Pretty rich from a network that evidently has a minumum-titty-per-episode quota clause in the contract of every show they put out

Also, for it being the hot and sweaty old west, why are everyone's nips constantly hard like the saloon they're in has the A/C on full blast? Completely immersion ruining.

The music direction is fuckin rad. I was kinda put off by the 'modern songs reimagined' gimmick at first but they nailed it this episode. A little disappointed that there's been like 3 radiohead covers and yet they overlooked the supremely obvious Paranoid Android, but the Amy Winehouse cover makes up for it. Ramin Djawadi is the GOAT for TV music scores.

Also this show is not very good

For sho, but she is absolutely terrible in her role.  Not to say it's entirely her fault; the character is poorly conceived and has truly awful dialogue, but she was clearly miscast and stands out against a cast that otherwise make their goofy, bad characters work (maybe with the exception of Billy [don't call him Billy]).

Ugh I knew from the first ep they'd have to off Anthony Hopkins this season cause he'd be too expensive going forward but it didn't make it any easier to watch. :(

Glad they confirmed multiple parks.

Billy as Man in Black was so on the nose and even when revealing it just kept drawing it out. Wish he had been shot in the face and not the arm at the end. Though maybe now that he knows he can "lose" he'll be more interesting next season.

Maeve going back is gonna split a lot of people but I knew she'd do it because this ep hammered that "memory causes consciousness" and when Bernard couldn't get them out of her head I knew she'd act on them. I'm also glad she'll stay part of the show.

I suppose Ford triggered the lockdown?

Season 2 will be interesting, there's no more real mysteries in the show anymore. I figured they'd hold off on Arnold until s3 or something. Now that the flashbacks/early timeline plot is over I wonder how captivating the show will be as something more "straightforward."

We've got to go back to island park!

I kept thinking she was gonna leave, and then the outside world was gonna turn out to be a space station on Mars or some shit. Well, there's always Season 2 (in 2018).

Was good, predictable (although if I hadn't occasionally browsed the gaf thread I probably wouldn't have guessed all the reveals, but gaf had them all written out episodes ahead, even the finale stuff) and some lows but the good parts were well done.  Man in Black's backstory is so poorly done and underwritten (turns from a wuss to a heartless psycho on a dime) that if you cut the entire subplot and his only story is the present story, it would work the exact same in its conclusion in the end.  Also the Maeve stuff stretched way too long and the butcher guys were terrible non-stop.  But the Hopkins/Bernard stuff was always great and some of the support cast were good as well.

I'll definitely check out S2, but not on the edge of my seat waiting for it, which I guess is good since it's a while away.  I do appreciate that the season was written in a way that if the show got cancelled after S1 it'd still be self-contained.  Like the story could be over now and that'd be fine.  It's the story of Ford and his final narrative reflecting on his past 30 years.

B+ season.

I really didn't like this, but I don't wanna be that guy, so I wanna point out one thing I really enjoyed about it; Ramin Djawadi really did great work here. The soundtrack of the show nails the tone. It's not easy to come up with motifs that work in both a western and scifi context, but he somehow manages to do it pretty seamlessly. His work on GoT, Person of Interest and this pretty much seal him up as the GOTY TV music dude in my book

There's good stuff on the soundtrack but I feel like it's missing a lot of the closing credit songs, like a more driving version of the Sweetwater theme from episode 10's end credits.
Title: Re: Westworld
Post by: zomgee on December 16, 2016, 11:26:50 PM
Nope - this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0Qt1-BFFpE

I was expecting a little more of this theme. I think many of the end credits are riffs and motifs off the themes included with the soundtrack. This one is a harder driving Sweetwater track. I haven't poured over the soundtrack but I haven't found it yet.
