Title: Mario Run | OT
Post by: Cerveza mas fina on November 15, 2016, 02:36:55 PM
Wut? 10 buck for an iOS runner?

Not like this Nintendo

At least it comes with a free trial mode. That should be enough to see if it's worth the price or not.

Rather that than some shitty IAP that breaks the game for whales.

The real kick in the dick will be if it's 10 dollars AND IAP.

has no iap, and it has actual levels so it's not really an endless runner; more like a regular Mario game where he runs automatically

Yup.

If a Niantendo's bs PokéGo game can sell that well, you can bet an actual Mario game will make Ninthings swoon.

I played through the free content this morning. It's fun, but I'm not going to spend $10 on it. I'll get the new Mario for the Switch instead.

I just can't get over how they continually re-use NSMB assets for all these games.  Can we at least get some different music already?

Love all these different challenges and stuff you can do. Either to beat your friends at their rally score, or collect colored coins for that neat collection next to your name. I don't see much point in building in the Kingdom (aside from the Bonus House), but it's much nicer than not being able to (like in Miitomo 1.0).

Anyway, it's a fun game. I hope they add more worlds eventually. Would love to see some occasional classics from Super Mario World, for instance, but they've probably overdone those in other releases.

It's a bummer y'all deleted it.  The levels after the pay gate are actually quite strong.

I think this should have been 4.99 though.

Some of the levels are difficult, especially if you're collecting colored coins. Although not all of them are, so there is no constant feeling of frustration. It has a good balance between "Yay" and "Fuck this", and I like it a lot. Wish I had more time to play though, because I'm still collecting pink coins. Doing it as I play through instead of finishing the World Tour first.

Nintendo; way to onboard:
First, choose "region" - being in the United States "region," you get to scroll all the way down to "U" instead of having the store detect ANYTHING by the region set by the store. Why not start with that?

Second, "link Nintendo account" drops you on a page with two choices: "Create Nintendo account" or "Create Nintendo Account for a child" What if you already have one? What if you just want to sign in? Well, actually, that's under Create. For some reason.

The game itself is alright. It's slow-paced and seems like replaying even early levels for completion could be fun. But, sheesh, Nintendo really exists in its own little bubble, and still doesn't seem to understand basic stuff like this for apps.

As someone who spent (too much) time playing Miitomo, I can say there are "similar improvements" from that app. The menu layout and some features are similar, but has an overall better feel to it. In one way, it makes it easy to see the improvements from their Miitomo release, but on the other hand, it's similar enough to start wondering, if you think too much about it. But no need to go there.

They're probably adding more worlds eventually, especially given how they labeled the "full game" purchase. But also because it was $10. Better be giving us free iOS Mario for life.

It's fine, but definitely not worth the price. 18 levels is pretty thin. Doesn't leave me optimistic about mobile Nintendo, but I'll probably still be throwing them another ten for AC whenever that

It linked with my existing account pretty easily but yeah the region stuff was a total WTF.

Knowing Nintendo the game probably doesn't have metrics of any kind so they have no idea what and where their drop offs or pinch points are.

Yeah, possibly. And I think the majority of them didn't know beforehand that Nintendo announced it was going to cost money, so I doubt even half of the ones who paid are still playing it.
What would have been the best way to put it out as a free demo anyway? Two separate items in the App Store? (Genuinely asking.)

5% attach rate is pretty strong. It's a fun fuck-you to the current F2P market, will be interesting to see longterm performance and if they add stuff.

Agreed, it should have been half the price. I don't feel anything having paid more, but it's clear it has disappointed the majority, and that's understandable. I wonder if they'll learn next time, or just stay away from the smartphone market. It's #15 on Top Grossing here, but spammed with 1-star reviews. I think it's at 3.5 or something. How about the US App Store?
