It is defined as an adjective relating to circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than emotional appeals.
Its selection follows June's Brexit vote and the US presidential election.
Oxford Dictionaries' Casper Grathwohl said post-truth could become "one of the defining words of our time".

Posting in a post truth thread while looking at a fence post as the postman delivers mail from the post office.

You're saying we should get tested?

What bothers me with all that, beyond the fact we are trying so hard to convince ourselves we're living in such unique times bloody gosh aren't we special snowflakes ?, is that it is pretty convenient to push all that into that abstract fuzzy collective consciousness as if it was all a shift in perception and not in actual reality. If we accept the premise, why did citizens shift to a "post truth" state ?
I'm sure the actual scholars who came up with the notion did all that actual thinking work, but the term has now been seized as a talking point that looks awfully like a convenient way to not face some uncomfortable realities. It's not that western liberalism is in crisis, you see, it's because the poor fools are now victim to a "post truth" disorder.

I could never handle the truth

One more strike against neoliberalism. I remember when some staffer in GW Bush's retinue mentioned something about a "new reality" that the world was going to have to accept, and instead much of his bullshit came back to roost. I laughed at the comment, and laughed when it all fell through for him.
Now I feel like the Apple executives who were busy laughing at Windows 1.0 when they saw it, because it fell so far short of Mac OS. :-\
