So I'm in a nostalgic mood for MGS but being an adult don't have the time to play it. So while at work I've been watching Metal Gear Scanlon to get my fix. It's so good. Team Dan and Drew. Team DD. Team Diamond Dogs. DD???!?!

It really is fantastic. I can run out of patience for Dan rather quickly but Drew is the best.

it can be frustrating sometimes tho. like they spend an entire hour trying to beat revolver ocelot. a boss i beat in five minutes when i was 13. I'm not going to claim I was a game wizard back then. my game skills really hadn't been sharpened and i had to start over FF7 because I fucked myself over by being under leveled and got stuck multiple times. I was bad at games then but even I managed to beat that boss in a few minutes, which takes them an hour to do, missing free shots and stuff. Utterly frustrating stuff to watch sometimes and amazes me how dan cannot articulate real tips besides being a MGS fan. Like, i'm shocked any mgs vet wouldn't tell drew after the first hundred times they died on that boss fight that you shouldn't chase ocelot in a circle, because he'll just run away. You wait for him to run out of bullets, and he ALWAYS stops to reload, which gives you a free shot. You have to shoot from afar. You do not chase. And while you do chase you can target and hit him in the back. like, i would have told drew this after like the 3rd time he died on the boss but they end up fighting 5-7 times?!
other than that it's groovy

yeah he is all about showing off the easter eggs (probably just cause they make interesting content, there's stuff i didn't even know existed) but refuses to say anything about how to play the games. until he gives up and does that anyway.

watching this confirms mgs1 as my favorite mgs. the memories, the story, the characters, the bosses, the stealth, the codec portraits, SNIPER WOLF. I don't think it's the best one (this is MGS2 Substance for its GOAT vr missions) but it has the full package of what Metal Gear stands for.
Other top contenders are MGS VR Missions, 3 Subsistence, Metal Gear 2, and Ghost Babel.
MGS1 stands as my favorite MGS because it literally changed what I what I thought a video games were capable of. FFVII already made a big impression, and the next year I was playing MGS where every line is voice acted and it felt like a Hollywood film in game form. You can say a lot about MGS series, but MGS1 still stands as imo, the first complete package in terms of video games as an entertainment medium. There were other games that were voice acted before MGS1. There were games were better stories than MGS1. But no game tied together the storytelling, with such tight gameplay in such a cohesive manner before it IMO. It's just the complete package in every respect for me. You could point to Half Life and say that but while I understand that POV, I disagree with it. MGS1 pushed games ten degrees forward. I felt that way when it first came out and I still feel that way now.
Even in 2016 it's still a fantastic game. Its art direction despite the limitations of the original playstation is jaw dropping even now. Like how the metal panels on the walls shine. Or the lights on the ceiling. Or the lighting in the genre. What a fucking game and complete masterpiece.

He had the best line on the Beastcast the other week. I think it was Vinny listing off the other hosts for some reason during a commerical break and (paraphrasing):
Vinny: "...and that goes for Jeff, Alex, and Drew"
Drew: "it's just Drew"
Vinny: ???
Drew: "it's not Andrew"

And it was during a commercial. I pay for GB Premium but I always listen to commercials because they are wacky.
