I hope she pulls through, but ten minutes without breathing sounds like there would be some brain damage. That ten minutes without breathing part comes from a fellow passenger so it might be hyperbole however.

On a plane though - how much damage of a stopped heart is done in the first couple minutes? I imagine normally it would take past someone's due before a knowledgeable response person even gets on the scene.

A plane is probably different with how trained the attendants and the random passenger are, maybe the question is how sustainable CPR really is in getting oxygen to the brain. Not saying I'm optimistic...

She had a lot of shit go sideways in her life and should die happy at 90+.

My grandpa had a heart attack when he was out in a field trying to put out a fire by himself when the rest of his family was at church, and even after they figured out what had happened it probably took another half hour to get him to the hospital. He lived another 20 years after that in fairly good health. Not trying to make any real comparison here, just that right now there's really no way to know what the long-term damage is going to be.

In a MI it's all about "time to needle" aka getting to the cath lab and stenting an artery

So being on a plane may lead to early CPR but probably delay in getting to the hospital

can we stop using the adjective of dead around someone's passing? Yes she died, but it's not like it was sudden. She passed is more appropriate to describe what happened. Sorry it's just a nitpicky thing I hate about media and reporting that has been bothering me all year long.

I don't know how much of her characters plot points will need to be changed around this rather sudden passing. But I hope she was not integral to the storytelling they had planned in Ep 8 and 9.

All filming for Episode 8 was complete, so she'll at least still be in that. Nothing from Episode 9 has been filmed, though, of course. She probably wouldn't have had a large role in Episode 9, all things considered, but her complete absence will definitely be noticeable.

She was stabilized but every article said it took them at least 10 minutes to get a pulse. If it takes that long, the chances of brain death are pretty high. I'm pretty sure we're gonna hear that while she was revived and stabilized, she was probably on a ventilator and never really "came back" so to speak.

They killed Han off in 7. What's to say they don't kill Luke and Leia in 9? Rey becomes the new Jedi master that brings back the Jedi Order. Leia is on a rebel planet that gets Nu-Death Starred. Boom, "off-screen" death for her

Machines can "keep you alive" indefinitely as in pump oxygenated blood to the tissues, but not a long term solution if they can't fix the problem - like your heart being dead

Potentially keep her alive until family were able to come pay respects

Carrie Fisher was so beautiful when she was young. My first crush.

Then it turned out she didn't just have good looks but was smart as hell and a great writer to boot....

so I just listened to Carrie's very recent Fresh Air interview, and she spent a bit of time talking about how difficult the last year was for her, what with her Mom having two strokes and a lengthy recovery. She said she was left frailer but still capable. She was also just as to be expected, casually hilarious. Hate to use a Star Wars metaphor, but she really was Jedi level for self-deprecation.

Of course, nothing like a bit of extreme stress, advanced age, and some existing health problems to exact a toll on someone. I was just thinking how sad it was for Debbie Reynolds to outlive her daughter, now it even seems more sad.

Pretty sure Carrie's the reason I fall for strong women. I love that she went on to do writing and maintained an unusually reality-based perspective in Hollywood. 60 is too damned young.  :'(

Apparently, It was her favorite favorite possession and she took great pride in it. Her family thought having her ashes be in her favourite item instead of a standard urn would be the best thing to do to honor and remember her.
