Title: Western cartoons megathread
Post by: Ruzbeh on December 30, 2016, 07:59:49 PM
I finished watching Jonny Quest (1964).

It was pretty good. Prettaaaaaaaaaay prettay good. Very nice art.

I think The Invisible Monster was my favorite ep. That was some scary shit. Shadow of the Condor was also very good.

I was gonna move on to Real Adventures of Jonny Quest but because Jonny Quest felt sometimes like a proto Scooby Doo, I started watching Scooby Doo Where Are You.

I seen it when I was younger but don't remember much of it. Seen the first ep. The laugh track seemed a bit weird at first but it's a pretty funny show.

Can't wait to catch up to all the other classics.

I don't think it got cancelled, it ended at 52 episodes right when the creators wanted it to. It tied up all its lose ends and had a very satisfying finale.

Aw yiss, western cartoons are the best.

Futurama is my favoriteeee.

Random episodes is fine, but there's some plotlines that carry over occasionally.

Also it's really good.

that new Justice League show is straight.

its like DCAU + Brave and the Bold shenanigans. leaning more towards the latter. but not just dumb kiddy shit like Teen Titans Go. i can only imagine the shitshow this gag would've been on TTG.

You're basically watching everything I've seen in full a million times due to growing up on Cartoon Network  :lol

Yeah, same here. I spent a good chunk of the late 90s and early 00's watching pretty much everything on Cartoon Network. And WB before that, back when WB was straight fire.

Watch Might Max, Dufus:

Switching back and forth between CN, Nickelodeon, USA Cartoon Express, Kid's WB and Fox Kids in the mid 90's to early 00's :lawd
Also the SciFi channel when they still showed awesome 80s and 90s anime movies.

Looking through Fox Kid's lineup from the early 90's has got me feeling nostalgic. :tocry

Bobby's World
Tom & Jerry Kids
Eek the Cat + The Terrible Thunderlizards
X-Men
Animaniacs
Super Dave
Life With Louie
The Tick
Sam & Max Freelance Police (a surprisingly good adaptation, I've rewatched it recently)

Steven Universe is by far my favorite cartoon that's on rn. Beyond all the action and beautiful visuals, the unveiling of the story over the years has been absolutely marvelous.

the online fan communities tho...avoid them at all costs. you have been warned (http://i.imgur.com/4oBVhwC.png)

Oh yeah, Gumball is awesome. Cartoon Network (at least here) airs tons of good stuff. Gumball, Adventure Time, Steven Universe (I've tried watching random episodes, but I don't think that works). I'm sure there are more that I just don't remember right now.

There's one more, I think it's "Clarence" in English. Pretty funny in my opinion. And the one with Pizza Steve is okay to watch when bored.

so about the French...

seemingly every year they're able to pull together some imaginatively conjured, emotionally rich, hilarious, and spectactular (and usually hand drawn) animated film. So many in fact, that I thought it best to just dump a whole bunch of trailers into a spoiler bracket as to not derail the page too much.

Rick and Morty is "too gross?" :comeon

It's actually fairly heartwarming and fun at the end of the day. Watch the episode Totall Rickall and Meeseeks and Destroy.

Shows that are actually too gross to watch: Cow and Chicken, Ren and Stimpy, Two Stupid Dogs, etc. Hated those shows because they were so disgusting.

RICK AND MORTAYYYYY. So good. You can watch them out of order, but there are things referenced in sequential episodes if continuity is important (it's not).

Gravity Falls

Gravity Falls is indeed the shit. If I'm not remembering wrong the people behind it are the same people who made Flapjack.

The main guy behind it was on Flapjack but i'm not sure if anyone else on his team were also there.

On one hand It was unfortunate that the series ended but on the other hand there is a respect for someone who decides that its time to end something and not let it run until it becomes a shadow of itself

I didn't mind Flapjack but it always seemed like too much of a Spongebob ripoff for me to really get into.

 :confused :point

Ren and Stimpy is gross but in a good way. I tried to rewatch it recently but found it a bit uneven. It's funny as fuck but too many stretches of boredom at times.

Nerve ending fairy episode straight disturbing tho

You'll learn Johnny's true fate.

God, I loved Venture Bros. once. I need to go back to it. I think Morpheus is a more true Dr. Strange adaptation than anything Marvel Studios could put together.

A lot more Hanna-Barbera stuff has been added to WB's Manufacture-on-Demand DVD service since the last time I checked. I bought Josie & the Pussycats in Outer Space and Thundarr the Barbarian a few years back and then there was only maybe a dozen. Real Adventures of Johnny Quest is on there now, noice.
